What a mess, lucky nobody killed. This type of accident is always a concern as in this case, you could be stopped and rammed into.

I've read this thread and the stories about all the minivan traffic accidents and am saddened. I've been in 2 serious car accidents. To say the lease, it's a horrible experience when you come to and wonder how you survived. So my question is, am I nuts or is the train not a decent alternative? That's what I plan on using from & to Bangkok when I come, so for the minimal added cost, wouldn't this make sense? I did some searches and found little on recent derailments. If I being naïve about Thailand train travel, please let me know.

Really bad pile up at the U turn in front of the Airport entrance just after 4-00 pm. A couple of mini vans and at least 1 motor bike. Some poor soul laid out on the road, although not covered up, I doubt that they have survived. Sickening to see, along with the gawkers lining the edge of the road.

Minivans perhaps still ignoring attempts to tame them. That's what's so futile here. No one and nothing will change the mentality, especially if an "influential" money man behind the scenes controlling and directing certain businesses.

Exciting time in our little town Wednesday evening. 10 wheel truck filled with cassava root on a village market road he shouldn't have been on....and he loses his brakes. 1 old man on a motorbike killed. A few other injuries, and huge property damage.

See the man sitting in the chair outside of the shop notice some noise behind him, and move away just in time. His Angel was with him! :D :( Pete

We must be under an alien vortex here this week in my town. Right after I posted the above my wife got notice of a passenger bus (big one) losing its brakes on Sukhumvit and wiping out several cars. More and perhaps video when it's published. :alien: :( Pete

For now, for those of you who have Facebook, some photos below:

The public bus drivers in Bangkok are absolutely insane and unsafe (speeding, blocking more than one lane, etc.)

The average age of a public bus in Thailand must be what? 70 years?

11 tourists hurt in Pattaya songtaew accident
Thirteen people, 11 tourists and two Thais, were injured when a public songtaew pickup truck was rammed from behind at a traffic light in Pattaya township, Chon Buri,in the early hours of Tuesday.

The songtaew was carrying 11 Russian tourists and was hit by a Chevrolet pickup truck while waiting at a traffic light at Chaiyapreuk intersection in tambon Nong Pheu of Bang Lamung district about 12.10am, Thai media reported on Tuesday.

The impact of the crash knocked the songtaew forward into a motorcycle, a motorised trishaw and two other cars also waiting at the traffic light.

Thirteen people were injured - the 11 tourists and two Thai passengers in the pickup truck - and were taken to hospitals. One Russian tourist sustained serious leg injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet pickup fled.

Pichai Kwanmuang, 56, the songtaew driver, told police that he was taking the tourists from downtown Pattaya to the Ambassador City Jomtien Hotel in Sattahip district when the accident occurred.

He said most of his passengers were thrown from the vehicle onto the road by the force of the collision

Witnesses told police that the Cheverolet pickup was speeding and cut in front of other vehicles before the driver lost control and ran into the parked songtaew.

Police were looking for the runaway driver.

I am a very nervous passenger, and it was with much trepidation that I agreed to get the minivan to Don Mueng a couple of days ago. I must have been very lucky - not one incident to make me think this was a dangerous practice.

I believe it depends upon how much you value your life, because the drivers of these minivans are definitely not concerned.I travelled from what was the victory monument terminal to Hua Hin on 3 occasions, each time sitting up front, seat belt securely fastened, and witnessed exactly how these guys drive/operate.On each occasion i felt uncomfortable,in fact i have heard passengers request the driver to slow down, and stop competing with his comrades on the road.I will not use this service, and feel that for an additional outlay of baht for a more comfortable, and so far, secure journey is worthwhile.

P.S. Big Boy were you on the beach this morning around 10,00 am walking in the area of soi 75??

I did say that I may have been lucky, but my driver did nothing whatsoever to make me feel nervous, and believe, I am a very nervous passenger.

The 2 injured passengers should be able to tell the MiB who the driver was, & where he lives..round him up, no bail, & take him along to a scrap-yard..to witness his truck going into the crusher.. :naughty:
Then after paying compensation to all the injured, the poor taxi driver who's vehicle is knackered, his fine..etc, etc..he then has to still find the monthly payments to the HP company for his lump of scrap the police have kindly returned to him.
But here daddy will step in.. we all know the rest.. TiT.
