Never saw F&C in the years I lived in Zimbabwe or my visits to Pretoria, Joburg and The Cape
Richard dear fellow, you must have had blinkers on when you were in South Africa, and especially in Cape Town. I can assure you, there are probably more fish and chip shops in Cape Town than their are in London.

Hell, almost every road has a fish and chip shop. Okay, maybe not quite so many, but certainly a lot more than I ever saw during my 10 years in Scotland. The choices of fish are the same in all SA F&C shops - Hake, Hadock and Snoek. You'll also find most F&C shops sell Vetkoek. Yes, F&C is/was an English thing but let's not forget, SA was under British rule, and us English speaking South Africans held on to our heritage, just as the Afrikaans speaking South Africans held on to their Dutch heritage.
We did however discard the mushy peas, and no, we never have ketchup with our F&C - strictly salt and vinegar.
Also, allow me to keep you right........In SA we eat "Boerewors" when we braai, and NEVER EVER EVER bratwurst.
Secondly, comparing SA to Zimbabwe is like comparing Angola to the USA. A trillion miles apart. Don't worry son, I'll keep you right.

Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact
