Well, true to form the promised delivery date for the remaining 'extras' (which I ordered over 4 months ago) has come and gone - I still only have half a car. Why can't Ford give an honest date and stick to it, rather than give so many false promises?

Are they born liars, or just incompetent?

[edit] Has anybody else on this forum had their new car delivered in installments? Or is it a Ford thing?

Judging by your experience BB, I'd say it's the only chance they've got of selling anything.

I'm not sure if they are just teasing me, but we've had a call from Ford today advising that the rest of my new car has arrived :? If I hand my car over on Wednesday morning, I'll get it back Wednesday evening.

They also reckon that they've got me an owners handbook (in English) in PDF format downloaded to a disc, which I can pick up at the same time.

:banghead: I'll have to think of something else to moan about now

I take it on good advice that police will pull over pick ups at ten times the rate of Camrys or above, sedans. Just like to avoid men with guns. Love Thai police though! Very reasonable for the most part unless you dont know the language. Actually had a Thai police officer jump in front of a man pointing a pistol at me in Sathorn. And he wasnt wearing his uniform, just a badge around his neck and plainclothes so Im here to say Thai police saved my life. Kap Khun Kap!

Ford proudly presented me with my 'English' handbook on disc when I delivered my car to them to have the rest of my car fitted earlier this morning.

They dropped me home - excellent service.

I've spent the last hour reading my new handbook - guess what? Yes, it is a handbook for a Ford Ranger, but it is the 2005 model :? Maybe they thought with my technical knowledge, I wouldn't notice :D

I've now learnt the lesson - buy a Ford in Hua Hin, and you'll always have something to moan about. :D

Hi BB

If I'm not wrong, Ford already said that they couldn't get you an English Manual.

Maybe, they were actually trying to go the 'extra mile' to help you. Even if the end result is less than wonderful, perhaps you should not be so disheartened, they did make an extra effort for you.

The car purchasing process here is quite different to the UK. And it can be full of surprises (sometimes even nice ones!) and disappointments.

I've bought cars from Volvo, Ford, Isuzu and Mitsubishi (new ones), plus a couple from second-hand dealers. Its always been a learning experience, and always had it pitfalls and it pleasant surprises too.

I think most people just forget the little upsets (such as late delivery, and the odd 'white lie' or 2). I'm sure the dealer will give you good (as anyone else) service, and that you will be happy with your new vehicle.

BB what size engine is in the Ranger you have there. I see yours was 2WD, most of the ones here are either 2.5 or 3.0litre Turbo.
Let me know and will see what I can find over here in Aus

They did say that, and then they said they could get one.

I'm not disheartened - it's actually a lovely car. I am disappointed by the constant lies and mis-information.

As an update, they have since apologised for giving me the wrong manual, and have said that they will order the correct one. Oh, and by the way, the extras that you ordered with your car (5 months ago) will cost you 2,990 Baht for fitting when you collect it later WTF :banghead:

Glad to hear you are not disheartened

This is certainly not limited to Ford Dealers, it's throughout Thai society and culture. Telling porkies to avoid hurting or embarrassing either you or the lie-teller, is commonplace and seems accepted.

I understand that, and I am still managing to stay upbeat about it. However, I must admit, I don't see how constant lying saves face. Surely, the first time a lie is outed, the liar has instantly lost face.

BB when you signed up for the car, normally when you order any accessories the parts cost and labour is added to the total cost & finance package of the vehicle. I would query it if I was you, seems strange way to do business.

Don't worry, I will, but Ford must be the only place in Hua Hin where they don't (or won't) understand English, and my wife will cave in under the bureaucracy. If they tell her that I've got to pay the money, she will tell me that I've got to pay. Anything I say will not be understood. :banghead:

These jokers wanted to charge me my deposit again this morning because my wife didn't produce the receipt. I have since found it, and it was when they knew this that it was declared that I needed to pay a further 2,990 Baht.

I didn't cave in on the tea money when my original car went to someone else - this is probably another attempt to get a few tea bags out of me.
