Flying to/from Thailand (Covid Era)
Re: Flying into Thailand, latest updates
Sorry. Disembarkation at BKK of course. I meant she has to make arrangements for travel to the airport in the US where it takes off.

Re: Flying into Thailand, latest updates
HHTel, does your daughter have to go into a government-approved quarantine facility when she arrives back here?
My daughter (who has Thai citizenship) would like to come back here some time in the not too distant future but she doesn't have too many vacation days available and doesn't want to spend them all in quarantine.
Another problem for her, coming from the UK, could be that doctors there apparently don't generally issue "fit-to-fly" notices based on what I've heard.
Edit: I guess I should have checked before posting. Having just done so, I found that there are some clinics offering fit to fly certificates in the UK.

Re: Flying into Thailand, latest updates
There have been numerous reports of returning Thai nationals who have been tested positive for COVID in the quarantine facilities so I’m sure the answer is yes, she will have to go into quarantine

The answer is definitely 'yes'. Even on the application there is a statement that you have to go into state quarantine for 14 days, which you have to agree to.HHTel, does your daughter have to go into a government-approved quarantine facility when she arrives back here?

Re: Flying into Thailand, latest updates
Today I received an email showing 3 repatriation flights and contact numbers for Thai travel agencies approved to handle bookings. HHTEL one is flying out of Dallas Fort Worth around July 27th.
I have not received my certificate to enter yet so this maybe putting the cart before the horse. I have sent an email asking for a reservation and will follow with a phone call during Thai business hours.

Thanks for that. I'll pass that on. Was the email from the Thai embassy?
Re: Flying into Thailand, latest updates
As I see it from the UK Thai Embassy info you need to get a flight booked before you can apply for the certificate of entry. I will be back in the UK in a few days time and be starting on my attempt to get back to Thailand. Will have to chase up the fit to fly and covid free certificate, any chance GroveHillWanderer could post a link to the info on where to get one. My interpretation is that you need the fit to fly, covid free and booked ticket etc to apply for the certificate of entry and will again need a covid test within 72 hours of the flight. Has anyone tried to book up at one of the hotels on the approved list the embassy published? I guess there are a number of us interested to see how others have fared and any potential pitfalls along the way.

Re: Flying into Thailand, latest updates
The Thai embassy in Washington sent me a list of what I need to apply for the CoE and the fit to fly, hotel reservation, and covid test was said needed before the flight, but not to apply for the CoE even though their initial instructions sounded like they were needed. I booked a flight through normal internet sites and the embassy said that I will have to cancel and take a repatriation flight if approved.Gregjam wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 5:40 am As I see it from the UK Thai Embassy info you need to get a flight booked before you can apply for the certificate of entry. I also spoke (messaged) with the ASQ hotel of my choice. They said I can book at any time and can cancel/change the date. But they require a 50% deposit and if cancelled less than 7 days before the scheduled date the deposit is forfeited. I decided to wait until I hopefully receive my CoE.
Even though I have a valid "O" visa they made me do an application for a new visa. They said if approved I could use my existing visa.

Certainly looks like they’re trying to make it difficult, even for those who have a legitimate entitlement to live in Thailand - I’m sure that those without family ties will be looking elsewhere to live out their retirement.

There are quite a few people on the facebook page that are saying they are selling up.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 7:53 am Certainly looks like they’re trying to make it difficult, even for those who have a legitimate entitlement to live in Thailand - I’m sure that those without family ties will be looking elsewhere to live out their retirement.

I thought as much. That's probably going to be a deal breaker then - not much point in her coming here if she has to spend the majority of her time in lockdown where we can't see her.HHTel wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 12:43 amThe answer is definitely 'yes'. Re: Flying into Thailand, latest updates
I did not get an email but others on the facebook page have posted emails received from their local Thai embassy that the permission for the CoE is now at the local embassy level. I sent an email asking that to Washington but have not received an answer. If true hopefully it will speed things up in granting the CoE

Re: Flying into Thailand, latest updates
When Covid closed everything down I was scheduled to fly out April 25. I rebooked every time they closed the airport so on 3 or 4 now. Had a July 31 flight booked landing Aug 2 in BKK. This is what happened the other times, my info just disappeared with no explanation. I went to the AA website and it looks like it was cancelled. So opening the airports Aug 1 doesn't look good. Luckily AA has been great with refunding my points with a quick phone call.
So only current hope is a repatriation flight.
