What area are you staying in, have you done any 'speedtest.net' checks to see how it's performing? Next time I'm in your I can do a couple of tests if you were interested, I'm convinced from mates' phones/pads that TrueMove's 3G performs better. This is what True usually gives down Soi 94. Only to a Bangkok server mind...

I'm just along the road from you in Bon Gai. I've just done the test and get Ping 158ms, Download 445kbps and Upload 50kbps. A huge difference to you.

With the risk of having tomatoes thrown at me  , ITunes has free worldwide radio, 1,000 + stations that come in clearly for me here. So far I've found BBC 1 thru 6 on it as well. There are versions for Microsoft and Android from what I understand. Pete

I was wondering about that. A few weeks ago, kendo showed me a really cool 'radio' app on his iphone - probably the same one. What's it called? Could be worth looking at on Android.

After I posted that in the wee hours I looked more. You can sync your android to ITunes, but you won't be able to get the radio, movies etc on the android device, just your downloaded ITunes music. Anyway, here is the link I looked at: http://www.doubletwist.com/ Google "ITune android" and there are others, as well as 'how to' blogs etc. There is no name for the ITunes radio as it's just a part of the ITune main menu. You can download ITunes to your Microsoft computer though and you'll get the radio on that as far as I know. Pete

I noticed the other week that the BBC website was saying that you could get BBC content by downloading itunes but when I tried it I got no further than repeatedly getting the itunes main website with no clues about BBC content or where to find it so I deleted it again.
You can just play most BBC radio stations through a browser from the relevant BBC site anyway so I'm not quite sure what you're going to achieve doing it any other way.

That seems more like the EDGE speeds BB, (although technically they revert down to 343kbps), even if I'm in a c.rap coverage area it'd still get around 1Mbps+. Bon Gai is fine for True coverage, can't see why AIS would not be good there too, but don't know.

Not being funny but are you sure you're running on 3G just now?...
1) have you been downloading much, I've done 1GB in a night before (clips for research purposes  )
2) have you got 'Packet Data' & 'GSM/WCDMA Auto' both ticked in the 'Mobile Networks' menu?
3) Also the correct 'Access Point Names' (APN) for AIS entered, mine were all cocked up for True when first had it. You can find them online easy.

ALSO... and possibly most relevant... when I signed up on the 28th of a month I had to wait until 13th of next month before they switched on 3G for me, as that's when my monthly 'cycle' starts for whatever reason they do that!?!?

Hope this helps, but reading back it probably confuses things more :naughty:

PS: Here's some older tests still on the phone app to support the speeds, ie: that I'm not 'over-egging' a one-off... these are only to Bangkok mind, but presumably still useful for like-for-like, BKK-BKK, comparisons.

The 0.35Mbps is EDGE at 343Kbps after I'd used up the allowance... ie: 11th of month, then on 14th when next month allowance started it back to typical 5-6Mbps. True have been remarkably (by Thai standards) consistent over the 3-4 years I've been with them, I wouldn't recommend them to mates and all if thought they might let people down

I agree SJ, my speed is pretty abysmal. I've just enabled data roaming as you suggested, but now I can't even do a speed test - Network Communication Issues.

I'm using 3G on my laptop as well, and am getting very similar readings.

I was in the Soi 94 this afternoon, and tried a test over there. Download was about 1.8mbps and Upload was about 1.2mbps. Nowhere near as good as you, but significantly better than I get here.

It was more the 'Use Packet Data' one rather than the 'roaming' one, but roaming will be needed when you go outside AIS coverage.

Mine can be around 2Mbps at times too, at least that means your 3G is def on. Are you at the 'back' of Bon Gai, ie: nearing Hin Lek Fai mountain/viewpoint way? I get a blind spot on Soi 88 over there where it forks right to viewpoint/straight up 88 West to Ave88/Naab Thong.

I'm going that way in hour or so will give it a try.

How did it go? My precise location is directly in front of Bon Gai Market.

I was in Dusit Land 8 yesterday afternoon, and was getting almost 5mbps.

Didn't go there in the end. But you're central enough there to get good reception afaik. Use a bar down the road from there a lot and it's normal speeds. You've seen what you can expect now from Dusit Land, if you ind you're in a bit of an AIS 'black spot', borrow someone's True sim when they're over.

I will check there though, when next passing.
