REDEMPTION (2022 ITV)

Just finished watching Redemption which stars the excellent Paula Malcolmson(she played Ray Donovan's ex-wife Abby in Ray Donovan).

The basic story here is a Liverpool Police Detective Inspector is suddenly contacted by police in Dublin to tell her that they found the remains of her long lost daughter. She goes over to Ireland to look after her grandchildren and investigate the murder of her daughter.

Overall I found this drama to be pretty decent, mostly due to the fine performance from Malcolmson.

Nothing we haven't seen before, so to speak, but well put together and if you're looking for something to watch you could do worse.

Better than 'Better' (see above) but not by much

7 out of 10

For those of you waiting to binge watch the latest season of Picard, it has now finished (10 episodes). The best of the 3 so far, despite the rather saccharine ending. Probably the last with Patrick Stewart?

THE DIPLOMAT (2023 NETFLIX)

Last night I watch the first 3 episodes of the new Netflix Geopolitical drama series called the Diplomat starring Keri Russell.

I have to say that I'm not sure whether I think it's just okay or very good, not quite made my mind up on that yet.

What I will say is that Keri Russell is very very good in this role, and the production is very good.

It reminds me a bit of Succession in so far as that there's always a lot of intense talking going on in very smart expensive rooms! Just a few too many confrontational discussions so as to be a bit annoying.

It's also a bit of a black comedy at times.

I'm certainly going to stick with it. Just wondered if anyone else is watching it and what they think?

It's in my to be viewed folder. Finishing off S2 of Perry Mason and Succession as each ep drops.

I've actually watched the full 8 episodes..

I wasn't entirely sure after the first 2, but have to admit I've certainly enjoyed it overall. Well worth the watch :thumb:

No confirmation of a second season, but there surely will be.

Sweet Tooth Season 2 out this week on Netflix :thumb:

Certainly not to everyone's taste, but must admit I enjoyed the first season.

Ooooh thanks Pietro, I started watching season 1 but didn't finish it for some reason. I'll get back to it.

I only made it through 1 1/2 episodes. Does it get better?

THE DIPLOMAT 2023 NETFLIX

I've now completed this 10 part geopolitical drama series.

As indicated earlier I found it to be good in some ways but not in others. Certain actors and their styles just got right on my tits! Script was a bit corny at times and also felt a tad repetitive.

Basic concept and overall storyline were decent enough but like so many of these drama series it could've been better IMO(by making it a bit more serious and a bit less American smart ass fast talking!)

And I couldn't help feeling at the end that something was missing.

But again, I will reiterate that the lead actress was very good indeed.

7/10

Perhaps a tad slow to start with, but I enjoyed Season 1 overall - as I mentioned however, not to everyone's taste I'm sure. It does get good reviews and a 7.8/10 on IMDB.

What Season 2 will bring, who knows.....

Not out until later in the year, but certainly enjoyed the movie years back, so must be worth a watch (?) :thumb:

"The first images of the new Full Monty TV series have been released ahead of its premiere later this year.

The 1997 movie followed a group of Sheffield steelworkers who formed a strip act after falling on hard times.

Filmed in and around Sheffield the series will feature original cast members Robert Carlyle, Mark Addy, Tom Wilkinson, Hugo Speer, Paul Barber and Steve Huison as well as the original screenwriter Simon Beaufoy.

The show will air on Disney+ in June."

I’ve been watching the latest adaption of Great Expectations on BBC and whilst I wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s terrible, it’s definitely not as good as I was hoping for. Probably the best known actor/actress is the very talented Olivia Coleman. I don’t recall watching a Charles Dickens series before, with the F word used so liberally - but these days it seems an obsession with whoever produces TV programmes.

Not much out there at the moment but two I've started are:

Citadel - A kind of James Bond-type spy action series with a lot of shooting and fighting. It stars the lovely Priyanka Chopra Jonas which is worth coming back for.

Rabbit Hole - Only saw the first one but it was good enough to make me download the series. Keifer Sutherland getting deep into corporate espionage.
