They're probably testing it to a Thai server (which will give full speed), and you're downloading from an international one which will run at about a third of the speed. Doubt there is anything wrong with the computer.

Same, same but different. When True installed mine, every wi-fi device except my laptop was fine. They showed me that their laptop was fine. They said it had to be my laptop, and I should take it to............. not being that stupid, I took it to my daughter's house where it connected immediately.

I got straight back onto True, they took the details, and got somebody who knew what they were doing to talk to me through an interpreter. She asked a few questions, and announced that she knew the problem. The new True boxes were only compatible with Windows 8.

She downloaded a patch and I've been enjoying an excellent service ever since.

It seems to me that if the engineer can't fix it, his mate will be willing to relieve you of some cash while he tries to sort it.

Over the past several weeks, the following error message appears a few minutes after start-up. When this happens, whatever program I'm running at the time (invariably Chrome), crashes. I have tried with IE, but no change.

I've searched for advice on the web and have updated Bluetooth drivers etc., but to no avail. Whilst it's easy enough to acknowledge the error message and restart Chrome or whatever program, this is a pain in the rear....

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I would say you need to go into your startup listing and uncheck everything you don't need to open at startup time.

Do you use bluetooth for anything? If not you could just uninstall BTTray

Thanks for the suggestion BB - tried, but unfortunately no change.

I'd thought about this, but unfortunately do need to connect Bluetooth devices occasionally. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Just some advice please.

My hard drive crashed (all backed up), no idea why, took the computer into a place in Korat to get a new hard drive and they said they would set it all up again, so I left them the 4 recovery discs, plus Norton and office. But when I collected it they said they didn't understand all of that and had set it up anyway, which has caused all sorts of problems which I have gradually sorted out. But I would like my laptop back the way it was. Is there any problem in my wiping what's on the hard drive, then installing the recovery disks to get back to where I was - will they start automatically when installled?

Thanks.

Nope, providing you're 100% sure you have the backup you can wipe what they've installed (probably all in Thai anyway).

I can't hear youtube. The visual is fine and I can hear records, movies etc off my hard drive.
I've Googled this situation but people are suggesting registry fixes which I'm not happy about doing.
Does anyone know how to rectify this?

You havent got the mute button on Youtube activated by any chance? If the sound works on other things its not your hardware.

I use Google a lot for a variety of reasons. The search words used to be highlighted in the results, so that if, for example, I was searching for a short quote from a philosopher and the result took me to a 15-page essay by some boring intellectual, the section I needed would be easy to spot without having to read every word.

Whatever happened to that function?

Not quite the same, but if you use Edit/Find and enter your phrase, it will be almost as good.
