You explained OK. You asked if it was better to change at Swampi or Hua Hin. My answer was Hua Hin. BB has since explained the exchange rate difference is minimal.

The other reasons are that you don't want to be carrying more cash than necessary in a public area such as the airport, or the streets of Bangkok or on the train/bus or indeed at anytime when you don't really need it.

If you don't have it on your person it will not be lost or stolen.

i bank with the bank of Ayudayha and draw from the same ATM and was surprised that on only one occasion was the Bank of Ayudayha NOT the best exchange rate

I also bank with the nationwide and thus no charges (you are with barclays i believe you said, that speaks volumes )

The reason for the fact that I have the lowest charges and the best exchange rates is very simple

I have totally ignored every single inane unintelligent BS post you have ever posted on financial matters

The main one is in square D7 of the city map, and there is another one on Petchakasem heading north on the right around soi 53 I think, but I don’t remember exactly.http://www.huahinafterdark.com/hua-hin-map.htm

The Bank of Ayudayha is generally at or close to the top. You will find their ATMs in gas stations, 7/11s, exchanges and of course the 4 branches in Hua Hin.

At the moment Bank Bangkok are giving the best rate.

To put it in perspective though, the difference when changing 100 GBP to THB is about 30 - 40 Baht between the best rate and the worst. Hardly worth getting a motorcycle taxi to the nearest Bank Ayudayha if you have a TMB within walking distance. The difference between ATM and cash is about 70 - 80 Baht per 100GBP.

http://bankexchangerates.daytodaydata.net/default.aspx

Use the GBP to THB and TT rate from currency type

Your bank in your home country may make additional charges. Some people set up foreign currency accounts here to avoid that.

And the other two I know are next to Geuntung supermarket and on Petchkasem west side south of Tesco at Market Village. I think Steve refers to Soi 41. (Hua Hin Ham & Bacon Soi).

At the current quotations if you withdrew 4,000 GBP worth of Thai baht from a Bank Ayudayha ATM you would get 241,269 Baht. If you did the same at Siam City Bank you would get 240,500. A difference of 769 baht. That is enough for about 22 large bottles of Chang.

So the questions generated are:

How do you get such a high pension?
How do you overcome the daily ATM withdrawl limit?

Check the mathematics yourself. I am always getting it wrong.

Quote the economics Degree holder
Check the mathematics yourself. I am always getting it wrong.

I have checked and as normal you are right your maths and economics are as normal BS uninteligent and wrong

The saving between what i recieved for my pension drawn over 3 days the final day being the friday and the rate that it had dropped to on the day i posted is what i saved and roughly calculated at 3 big chang to 100 baht which i pay in my shop.
You obviously skipped that class and every other class and dont it show

Your 4000 figure is pure dream driven fantasy as for siam city bank it probably has as much to do with it as disneyland or a drug induced hallucination that you seem to be in

Put your degree in the khazi and use it for the only thing it is any use for

So I did.

I took the highest rate and the lowest rate. I then took the arbitrary figure of 4,000 GBP to get somewhere near to a 48 Chang lek saving. The difference between high and low (which just happened to be Siam City at the time) and found that was 769 Baht.

I didn't realise I had to calculate over three days from the Friday before the second day and and the number of degrees proof of Beer Chang to the last Sunday after Pentecost and then get your crystal balls out to calculate the rate for next week. And then the kamikhazi comes into the equation. My brain hurts.

I can't get my head round it all. Can you help? Someone is putting 500 Baht into my Bank in Hua Hin. When should I take it out and what ATM should I use?

Can you possibly save me enough for a bottle of Chateau Margaux (preferably 1982 vintage)?

Edited to correct typo.

OK now??

So at the end of it all, it makes no difference whatsoever (apart from a few Baht) which ATM you use.

The exchange rate for cash is similar at the airport to Hua Hin.

It is not advisable to carry more cash with you than you need.

Always check the ATM for hidden cameras and make sure nobody is standing right behind you. A lot of ATM fraud originates in Thailand. We have had at least one thread about it this year.

If it's a Credit Card or Debit Card don't let it out of your site when paying a bill. It's always better to draw the cash from an ATM and pay the restaurant/store in cash.

4,000 GBP worth of Thai baht
Quote you
I then took the arbitrary figure of 4,000 baht

Sorry i have a very low BS threshhold and you are full of it

The only sensible honest thing you have said and i quote
I can't get my head round it all.

That is obvious
