The daily Telegraph gives the following review,

“This four-part factual drama, with Steve Coogan eerily portraying paedophile Jimmy Savile, was filmed two years ago. Back-and-forth within the self-flagellating BBC meant a long delay in it reaching our screens. The result is a sombre, sensitive account of how this monster groomed the nation, using his fame and charity work to hide in plain sight. Episodes are bookended by testimonies from survivors of Savile’s heinous abuse. It might not tell us much we don’t already know but as a cautionary tale and portrait of evil, it’s grimly compelling TV.“

"Ghosts" (UK Version) Series 5 (and the last :( ) is now on BBC iPlayer and no doubt on the usual suspects to download.

Top Gear: BBC flagship show will not return for 'foreseeable future'

https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-67333907

The BBC's flagship show Top Gear will not return "for the foreseeable future" after presenter Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff was hurt in a crash while filming last year.

In a statement, the BBC said it has "decided to rest the UK show"........

Long past it's sell-by-date. Aside from the odd episode, I'd not really watched it for a long while and it was going downhill even prior to the departure of Clarkson, May and Hammond. Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc were a disaster quite frankly, whilst Flintoff and McGuiness may have improved things (not difficult), the show was pretty much doomed in my book.

I’m with you on that one, the programme for me lost its appeal probably at least 15 years ago when it changed from being a car programme to a lads programme and more about what stupid thing can we think of next - they could have renamed it the same as the BBC sitcom “Men Behaving Badly”!! And they went from reviewing normal cars (Fords, Vauxhall, Toyota etc) to Ferrari, Lamborghini etc - the only thing I enjoyed was the “Star in a reasonably priced car”. RIP!!

I was back in the UK recently and even though I still had my Netflix and Prime Video accounts available, I ended up watching mostly ITV and BBC offerings.

Can thoroughly recommend "The Long Shadow," an ITV true crime drama series about the Yorkshire Ripper murders.

I was actually living in York at the height of the murders so I remember that period vividly.

On BBC, there was the new series 3 of "Hope Street." I liked series 1 better than series 2 but I'd say in series 3 it's back to its earlier form.

Also enjoyed "Maryland" on ITV and the new series of "Shetland" (BBC) also looks good, though it's still ongoing.

Finally, although I haven't watched it yet, I'm looking forward to the new Daisy Haggard series on BBC, "Boat Story," both because I like Daisy Haggard as an actress and because it was apparently filmed in my local area with the beach scenes shot in Redcar and other scenes throughout North Yorkshire.

Long Shadow is very good but went on a bit too long IMO

Although so did the investigation so fair enough!

The name 'Top Gear' actually implies speed, and most people who are looking for entertainment will want to see Bentleys put through their paces, not Toyota Tortoises reviewed (unless in the 'Star in a reasonably priced car' format, which was superb, but that couldn't sustain a whole episode). You can't make a widely watchable TV show just for people looking to buy a family car. The show was a huge moneyspinner for the BBC with Clarkson et al, and I enjoyed the juvenile laddishness of it. Like Yorkie bars: "It's not for girls"; try getting that ad screened nowadays 555.
As soon as they left so did I, the chemistry was gone.

I think you're missing the point a tad - of course us "Petrol Heads" want to see the likes of Ferraris, Lambos, McLarens and the like, but not for an entire show. Neither do we want to see a program full of "Family Cars" or "Toyota Tortoises" as you so eloquently put it. Wouldn't it be nice however to review some cars that are sporty, realistically priced (especially 2nd hand) and look the part - hell, Toyota even produce a few!! Look at smaller Mercs - AMG saloons and you're looking at a very decent, quick car that is also practical. There's going to be many others!! Perhaps a look at EV's, hybrids and make an honest review - sh*t, some EV's will match any "Supercar" on performance and probably stuff them on range

As for the "sillyness", it got far beyond in the end - I loved the likes of trying to destroy the Hilux in the early days, going down with the demolishing of a tower block as one tests for example, but the latter days just became ridiculous and perhaps somewhat dumbed down for the perceived (or desired) audience. Embarrassing really.

Keeping "The Stig" and "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" was probably the only decent decision the BBC made, aside from shelving the show for now.

I just wrote several reviews, tabbed to another browser, tabbed back and the window where I'd written maybe a couple of hundred words had disappeared. I always forget that happens and so don't save a draft in case. :cuss:

So you'll never know....

This forum software is sometimes a real pain, why doesn't it just automatically save drafts? Crazy.

Yes, a frustrating feature of the software that has caught me many times. These days, if I'm writing a large piece, I write it in Word first, and then copy and paste into the Forum.

What you want is a car review show! :D Two very different audiences would be bored half the time by a show trying to cater to both. And I believe it would never have made the money for the BBC that it did.

Yep, I do that elsewhere, ridiculous that I never remember to on HHF! The reply doesn't get lost when moving to different tabs within one browser, only when alt-tabbing to a different browser.

There is a 'save draft' box here I notice, wonder if it works? I'll no doubt forget to try it....

OK, back to topic where I'm just lurking again after this debacle.
