Re: Express VPN

Post by HHTel »

That does appear strange.

I probably use it several times a day, sometimes for quite a long period. When I'm connected to the VPN, 3BB disconnects their internet connection but the line stays open otherwise the VPN wouldn't work.

When I look at the available connections, the VPN shows on the list but not connected (unless you have it connected)

There was a short period after getting it that BB, dropped their connection after being connected to the VPN for a while. I had to reconnect manually. That's gone away. I guess it had something to do with their software.

I must have signed up about the same time as you migrant, and for catch-up TV it is by far the best solution I've had in Thailand. No problems. However, I feel it is suspect for live streaming.

Incidentally, I've been using it for about 4 hours this afternoon without a hitch.

I’d agree with BB - most catch-up programmes work fine but the recent football matches have highlighted the problems of trying to watch live coverage - although I suspect that could be partially down to TOT.

When I used the VPN it worked fine but I kept getting knocked off my internet, even when I wasn't using the VPN.

Sounds like a provider or power issue. If the net is going down regardless of whether you have the VPN on - it is the provider.

My experience is similar to those above - it works well for regular use and catchup, but not for live streaming.

No AV software or firewall blocking the connection?

When was the last time you restarted the router? If only a few days never mind. If a couple of weeks maybe try a restart.

Right click on Windows then select settings - network and internet>

This should show you the status of various things including Windows Firewall.

Not sure what happened today. Since using Express VPN I've been getting downloads in the high teens mbps. Today I downloaded 3 movies, all of which came down at more than 40 mbps.

And yes I was connected via the VPN.

Check out the below, They've introduced a new protocol. I'm not sure for desktop though, or just mobile? I haven't look at their video yet.

Before I upgraded to a new laptop, I was downloading with no problem from 3BB but of course my connection was much slower so probably not noticed. After connecting my new laptop, the internet speed went from 100+ to 800+ due to 5G.

As usual, I went to download some movies from YTS and the speed was around 60 mbps (up from around 5 - 10). Of course that was recognised by 3BB software and after 2 movies, they shut me down. Hence the need for the VPN.

I have to say that I'm very impressed with it so far.

Thanks for the link, Pete, maybe they've updated all their software during the launch of their 'light' app.
