Not exactly Coronavirus news (yet), but watch this space.........

"Thousands of Chinese beer lovers gathered as the annual Qingdao beer festival opened over the weekend.
China has largely brought the coronavirus outbreak under control through a series of lockdowns and restrictions, and the small number of cases reassured beer-lovers to turn out despite the global pandemic.
At the festival, which opened on Friday and runs until late August, drinkers were eating and drinking together, watching shows and fireworks and sampling the more than 1,500 types of beer available.
Many revellers were walking around the enormous venue in Shandong province mask-free, with long tables packed with merry drinkers in scenes reminiscent of pre-Covid-19 days."

I see that Sturgeon has put Aberdeen back into complete lockdown from 5pm yesterday. Stay at home. Visit no-one. All bars, restaurants etc closed.

This after cases doubled to 58 in a day.

Compare that with actions taken in the US. Up to 70,000 cases and over 1,000 deaths daily and they're pushing to open schools!!

EMERGENCY RULE STAMPS OUT VIRUS AND CIVIL RIGHTS ALIKE
Thailand has found itself praised from all over the world – from the United Nations to a Nobel laureate – for its accomplishment in containing the coronavirus outbreak in spite of its close proximity to China, where the virus is thought to have originated.

The worldwide admiration proved to be a godsend for the government, who insisted that the success justified its decision to maintain the all-powerful Emergency Decree, four months after it was first enacted.

“I’d like you to look back and see if there’s no Emergency Decree, would we be able to reach this point?” PM Prayut Chan-o-cha told a media briefing on June 23. “It’s still necessary, but we will try to relax it as much as possible using the integrated laws.”

But scholars interviewed for this story cast doubt on the decree’s contributions to the pandemic prevention and warned the sweeping power granted by the law risks turning Thailand into a full autocracy – a concern also raised by ongoing student-led protests.

“It’s been over four months already, how can they still call it an emergency?” law professor Pat Niyomslip said in an interview. “Emergency is when the situation gets out of hand and there’s no time for preparation.”

Pat, who teaches at Chulalongkorn University, said the government is taking on a wrong solution for the problem, since the legislation wasn’t designed to combat a health crisis.

Coronavirus Vietnam: The mysterious resurgence of Covid-19

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-53690711

This I feel is very close to what Thailand will eventually experience. I hope I'm wrong but if I'm right, they will need to tackle it aggressively like they did before, and how Vietnam is doing it now.

Although there's no proof, shortly after, dozens of Chinese illegals were discovered leading to the arrest of 3 people on charges of 'people smuggling'. It seems likely that the virus was imported that way.
Hard to accept the theory that everyone was asymptomatic around the country and therefore was not detected earlier.

This made me chuckle and I'm seeing clear evidence of it every day ...

From "Corona-Totalitarianism" To The Invasion Of The "New Normals"
People’s minds are being taken over by a much more destructive and less otherworldly force... a force that transforms them overnight into aggressively paranoid, order-following, propaganda-parroting totalitarians.

You know the people I’m talking about. Some of them are probably your friends and family, people you have known for years, and who had always seemed completely rational, but who are now convinced that we need to radically alter the fabric of human society to protect ourselves from a virus that causes mild to moderate flu-like symptoms (or absolutely no symptoms at all) in over 95% of those infected, and that over 99.6% survive, which, it goes without saying, is totally insane.

I’ve been calling them “corona-totalitarians,” but I’m going to call them the “New Normals” from now on, as that more accurately evokes the pathologized-totalitarian ideology they are systematically spreading. At this point, I think it is important to do that, because, clearly, their ideological program has nothing to do with any actual virus, or any other actual public health threat. As is glaringly obvious to anyone whose mind has not been taken over yet, the “apocalyptic coronavirus pandemic” was always just a Trojan horse, a means of introducing the “New Normal,” which they’ve been doing since the very beginning.

...

And, make no mistake, that is exactly what the “New Normal” movement intends to do. “New Normalism” is a classic totalitarian movement (albeit with a pathological twist), and it is the goal of every totalitarian movement to radically, utterly transform society, to remake the world in its monstrous image.

That is what totalitarianism is, this desire to establish complete control over everything and everyone, every thought, emotion, and human interaction. The character of its ideology changes (i.e., Nazism, Stalinism, Maoism, etc.), but this desire for complete control over people, over society, and ultimately life itself, is the essence of totalitarianism … and what has taken over the minds of the New Normals.

, this desire to establish complete control over everything and everyone, every thought, emotion, and human interaction.

It can be seen in scores of countries around the world: Africa, Central & South America, SE Asia, Central Asia, with attempts being made in the US & India. It's as if the leaders of these nations read Huxley and Orwell and thought that it was a good idea.

...."The four new cases are all members of a single family. None had travelled recently.".....

We may see more of these mystery cases. Perhaps this virus stays dormant in a person's system and manifests itself at a later date. That is a game changer if true. These NZ people had been no where and been with no one other than their normal circle.

Not news, but as it doesn't fit anywhere else, I'll put it here................

I watch the Worldometers Covid death numbers each day. An interesting pattern is emerging which is either a huge coincidence, or it throws doubt upon worldwide numbers reporting of deaths. The number of deaths stays fairly constant 5 days every week at 5-6,000 (with the occasional spike over 6K. However, every Monday and Tuesday morning for many weeks, the daily figure drops to 4-5,000, with the likes of USA and Brazilian numbers dropping to less than half the norm, and the UK has dropped to single figures for a few weeks.

I don't know if the below is for real or just some official blowing smoke. In any event it's worth keeping in mind and await more details.
