Not sure where you're getting this info from. The fast charging EV's announced so far by BYD are hardly any more expensive than current ones. The first sedan model, the BYD Tan, costs 218,900 Yuan - about 1 million baht or roughly $30,000. As far as I can tell, it's very similar to the BYD Seal, which actually costs more here.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Fri Jun 27, 2025 6:45 pm I realise that fast charging EV’s will be able to slow charge as well, but you’re going to be paying a premium to buy such a car in the first place, so the only benefit will be to use a rapid charger, which will be relatively rare for quite some time as well as relatively expensive, especially in the western world where they take every opportunity to fleece the paying customers!!
Megawatt chargers are not very widespread yet, but BYD already has more than 500 in China, rising to thousands next year, and will start installing them in Europe starting next year as well.
Megawatt chargers may well cost a little more to use, but not massively so, in the same way that rapid DC chargers cost more than the slower AC chargers do.
