Yes, I heard about that on the car radio earlier. On the radio it said it will set all of the vaccine work back months.

Yes, silly me, believing what I read again. Unfortunately, the opening phrase of every Google enquiry I've ever made about Covid and Worldometers starts with:

More details about this. It turns out this "new strain" is already the predominant strain in the EU and US.

The coronavirus figure trend is still downwards across most of Europe, but an unwinding of the ‘weekend effect’ seems to be dampening some of the feel-good factor of yesterday.

In short, there seems to be a lag over the weekend as the figures on deaths and hospitalisations work their way through the system, such that reporting on Monday is artificially low, while on Tuesday the figures seem high as they catch up with reality.

This has been reported elsewhere and what they've detected is the same D614G mutation that emerged in Europe as the dominant strain many, many months ago. According to all the papers published about this mutation (again, going back some months now) while it appears to be more infectious, it's not more deadly and it has no effect on the efficacy the vaccines currently under development.

After that comment, I'm never going to China. I once worked at Southend Airport for a few months and that was enough of Essex to last me a lifetime!

China are only 34th in the world for the number of cases, only 22 today. Looking at the figures I believe someone is telling porkies.

Playing with statistics, and dramatising the results.

Of course, the UK are getting Covid under control now, with the last 3 daily death rates being 5, 3 and 12. At the swan song of the virus, other illness are bound to overtake the Covid numbers.

Here in Thailand, anything has been worse than Covid for many weeks.
