It’s strange when you look at the figures - total COVID deaths in Thailand are not much different than a single days road deaths. Put the country into a 5 month lockdown (and many more months to come) to deal with COVID, road deaths - we’ll look into that one day, but not this year!!

Exactly, more people have died on the road since the weekend than have from Covid in total.

Thailand's leaders have their priorities squarely up arse yet again.

My personal opinion is on the fence over this. What MIGHT have happened if the Gov't didn't take those measures? We'll never really know.

I have yet another yardstick that I use for what might have happened:

- UK and USA where the people have been resisting/fighting the Gov't every inch of the way.
- Brazil where the Gov't did nothing.

Just 58 deaths is brilliant, but in other places it is beyond belief.

Even looking at China, it was totally out of control for a few weeks, but they introduced very strict measures and soon brought it under control.

Unfortunately, this is a buoy we could continually go around and around. Everybody will have an opinion, but nobody will really know the answer.

Road deaths are not contagious! Mostly caused by stupidity.

The most interesting to me, and probably where it originated:

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulation ... august2020
But surely, this is what the intention was all along - to get the deaths from CoVid-19 down to where it is no longer the major, major problem that it was at its peak. It doesn't change the fact that while flu kills on average 17,000 people in an entire year in the UK (according to Public Health England) the coronavirus has officially killed over 40,000 in little over 5 months since the first person died of the virus in the UK. Some sources (including the Daily Telegraph) estimate the true death toll may be closer to 60,000.

Well of course there’s no correlation, but my point is that they can apply drastic measure when they want to (and screw the economy up at the same time) but when it comes to tackling 20,000 Road deaths a year, they shrug their shoulders.

The below got a mention in a bigger story about the state of emergency being extended again. If and when we see more details we'll put something in Events & Activities if it is open for general public registration.

...."Gen Nathapol also said Thailand had invited foreign cyclists to take part in an inter-provincial event on Oct 6-16, Foreign participants would be quarantined for 14 days first.

Cyclists would compete for a trophy from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The event would be held in Samut Songkhram, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Ranong provinces.

The Thai Cycling Association invited 172 international cyclists and expected at least 70 to participate, Gen Nathapol said.".....

BREAKING NEWS

SAMUT PRAKAN — Medical officials say a Thai man tested positive for the coronavirus at a hospital in Bangkok on Wednesday.

The man, whose name was not released, tested positive at Ramathibodi Hospital and is currently treated there, according to Piyamit Sitra, dean of the medical faculty at Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute, an agency charged with treating coronavirus patients.

The alarm was raised by someone who posted on Facebook that a positive case was found at Ramathibodi.

Walairat Chaiyafu, director of the bureau of epidemiology at the Department of Disease Control, said the man had completed his 14 day quarantine upon returning to Thailand. He was said to be healthy at the time he was freed from his mandatory quarantine.

If confirmed, it would be the first case of virus outside state quarantine in many weeks. Thailand said it did not detect any local transmission for 80 days.

It is unclear how many people have come into contact with the patient.

My guess is that this guy contracted covid whilst in quarantine.
State quarantine isolate in pairs so transmission is possible.
Someone has screwed up. If he was in contact with someone who was later tested positive, then his quarantine should have been restarted from zero.
Of course, I may be wrong. Either way it's worrying.

Seems to be a lot of confusion over this 'unconfirmed' case outside quarantine.
One report states it's a guy while another says it's a 37 year old woman. Also a report that two people who have been through quarantine have been tested positive for antibodies.
