The wife and neighbors are convinced this is a setup to justify the extension of the state of emergency. These Thais seem to be more suspicious than us foreigners!

Sorry not news but opinion. Delete if necessary. Just felt like writing

Covid-19. If I'm honest, since the virus was first mentioned, I've been yo-yo-ing between taking it seriously and not. At first, not. Then people were dying in big numbers. Stats stats stats. Evenings waiting impatiently for the report on BBC1. Global lockdowns came next. Appeared very serious so I took it as such. And I strictly followed all the governments lockdown rules. But now - - though I still follow each and every rule...

I'm not sure.

During the protests in the UK, in the middle of it all, I was very vocal on social media about my displeasure at folk 'putting lives at risk'. And oh boy did I get ripped apart on all the usual channels.

"Wait 2 weeks!" I told them. I was certain, with thousands grouped together in protest? Along with all the beach goers. Illegal raves!...

""We're going to have a massive spike." And it's on you lot. 'Flouters!' Covidiots!'

Never did. Never spiked. 2 weeks passed. Four. Still waiting. I totally, in it's most completeness, lost this argument (and I heard about it, of course).

But with all the information/data given to us, I shouldn't have. It was a sure bet.

To conclude ( ). Not sure if serious anymore.

I should add that Im gonna continue to follow the rules and be over cautious just in case. Am not yet a 'covidiot', just questioning the severity of this virus.

Yes, I remember when the boot was on the other foot, when Thailand reported it's first cases, and the UK press were basically waxing lyrical about Thailand being doomed. If one or two cases back then were such a disaster for Thailand, one wonders why the UK isn't as concerned this time.

............ and it's twice as bad now  :
BREAKING NEWS

2 domestic cases found in Thailand

According to the Public Health Ministry:

- 2 domestic COVID-19 cases found.
- First case arrived back on June 2nd. Second case arrived back on June 24th. Both came from United Arab Emirates.
- Both were in State Quarantine.
- Both had the required health check-up before traveling; doctors detected COVID-19 antibodies.
- Both are in hospital and those with close contact to the pair will be tested. There is a very small chance of the virus spreading due to low level of COVID-19 antibodies.
- According to studies, Coronavirus antibodies may last two to three months after a person becomes infected with COVID- 19.
- This is not a second wave of outbreak.

I'm not sure whether it's clear that this couple tested positive to covid or only positive to the antibodies left after an infection. I understand that even though you are negative to covid, but you have antibodies indicating that you've had the disease, that transmission to others is still possible although very low risk.

"Chinese state media has defended Wuhan residents after photos and video of a huge pool party went viral this week, saying complaints by foreigners were “sour grapes” .

Thousands of people celebrated at a water park music festival in Wuhan this week, crowded in front of the stage, shoulder to shoulder.

An AFP photo of the dance party drew some negative responses at Wuhan’s apparent return to normal life. A newspaper front page in Australia headlined the story as “China’s big party”, and “life’s a beach in Wuhan as world pays virus price”.

Chinese authorities have faced persistent criticisms over early attempts to cover up the coronavirus outbreak, with some world leaders saying they could have stopped its spread to other countries."

So what happened with the 2 people who tested positive for Covid, breaking Thailand's 80+ days without a domestic infection? Was it FAKE News or has Thailand simply brushed it under the carpet because it does not suit their squeaky clean Covid image, I watch the numbers daily, and no local infections have been declared.

As they were returnees, although out of quarantine, and having found no further cases relating to them, I guess it's been concluded that they weren't local infections.
It was reported that there were trace elements of the virus and probably not enough to transmit to others.

They got it wrong whilst in quarantine. The incubation period is 14 days, not 3. This is a disease for which they are still learning. I'm guessing declaration of local infections doesn't fit their agenda. :?

Whilst I have heard about the issue with two Thai ladies being tested positive although having previously been in 14 day isolation back in June - my wife tells me she has heard the following from the daily covid press meetings ( both ladies entered Bangkok on different dates from the UAE) I do not think the ladies are friends, but it seems they both wanted to return to work overseas ( independently?) and needed to obtain a Covit 19 medical OK cert, but both tested positive. They are presently in Govt isolation and during the 14 days are being tested to see if the virus remains and if it can be passed onto others.Their immediate family with whom they were staying are also in isolation. That's all I have but it seems to differ from what has been said above
It does not matter where you come from, it's where you are going that matters.

So why not declare them as local infections? To declare them as returnees would surely be wrong.

Yes, of course 3 months without local infection sounds better than 3 days without local infection. However, if I was seeking out a prime Covid free destination for a holiday, any hint of untruths would put me right off.
