One word of warning, if you go, be prepared to be confused. We went last night, and the box office is closed. There are now 4 ugly ticket machines. However you can't just buy tickets from the machines. Firstly, you have to buy a cash card from a desk around the corner - 20 Baht. Then you choose your movie on the machine. What kind of seat (confusing in itself - it seems that I normally sit in the honeymoon seats )? Everything selected, you are given the cost. Somebody has to guard your transaction on the machine while you walk around the corner with your 20 Baht card and hand over the card with the cash, and they will put the necessary cash on the card. You then return to the machine, and put the card in to pay for your tickets. Your tickets are then delivered.
I'm sure it will get easier, and the system must make sense to somebody, but I was on the verge of walking away last night.
I've been going to this cinema regularly for over a year now, and I've only seen a queue at the box office once. Why?

Because many people would just as easy buy a fake DVD from the market and watch it at home. The fact that it's rarely busy may be why it's been closed - costing more to pay staff than the profit from sales?
Sorry, the question did not come across properly - it should have said something like why change the system? The old system worked, and the only time I'd seen it under pressure was for one very popular Thai movie.
They are still employing the staff, selling cards, taking payment and putting it onto the cards, selling 3D glasses, etc; but now you have to faff about with the monstrous machines, and have somebody stand guard while you have money put on your card. Its taking at least twice as long to buy a ticket.
If it wasn't for my son's patience yesterday, I honestly wouldn't have bothered.
Technology is meant to save time/effort. If I could have selected my movie, and fed in a 1000 Baht note to pay (this technology has been around for many years) I could understand the change. But a system that takes twice as long, and is more labour intensive - TIT.
As for 'honeymoon seats' probably the last description I'd have opted for.
Probably, plus it now takes 3 persons to do the work that one person managed quite easily before.
At the end of the day, all that I wanted to buy was 4 cinema tickets plus one pair of 3D glasses. I suppose this labour intensive solution adds to the Thailand experience.
OMG,, BB why didn't you tell me. Lady Mary from Downton Abbey, Michelle Dockerty, with whom I am in love is a. Passenger on the plan in NONSTOP, I do hope that she is seated in first class, where she belongs.
Well you being the upper class Brit that you are probably grew in a a historically famous house with masses of servants and find DA just too everyday and boring.
BB, you are so right, the process of buying a ticket is just ludicrous. However, a very nice young man was there and he helped EVERYONE through the system.
As for the film, yes its true, LadyMary has changed her nam to Nancy and taken a job as a flight attendant.
Did I enjoy it yes, would I urge others to see it, No
My son wanted to watch Vampire Academy (a very poor Harry Potter take off), so we went last night. There were 4 hi-so types (from Bangkok by the shade of their skin) who refused to use the machines, and created a bit of a fuss, so they re-opened the box office just for them.
