I want an airport where I can catch a flight to somewhere other than Chiang Mai at a reasonable cost. The airport doesn't have to be over-busy, just functional. Something similar to Chiang Rai would be great. Quite a few options, including connection options, but not so busy that it becomes a burden.
Having said that, if the solution includes too many tourist and traffic chaos, so be it.

Well, if they could come to that compromise, then I can agree with you on that point. But in many areas we still live in a developing country and with a government that doesn't think about future generations and the environment they eventually will live in I'm afraid there is no room for a middle ground here, only room for more greed and a perpetual struggle by the people themselves to try to keep up with the rat race for survival and status.

I've been going to Hua Hin for 22 years and going past that airport and I've never flown into it yet, so I don't think you've got much to worry about at the present rate of progress. No folks we can't have both, I'm saying do we want it like Pattaya and Phuket, not think so! IMO the more flights and roads that can be slowed down, the better
Even when they had a flight to Suvarnabhumi it never tied up with European flights, I seem to remember it leaving mid afternoon which wasn't much use for flights leaving around midnight.

Re: Flights to/from Hua Hin Airport
This latest venture will either fail because it’s under utilised, or even if it does prove popular, it can only cater for a handful of travellers so no impact on “mass transit”. We know that Hua Hin isn’t big enough to support frequent flights to any one destination, so the chances of anything happening that will appeal to the masses is unlikely. I don’t know how popular the HH to KL flights were pre-covid, but the option to travel to locations in the Asia region is appealing and one that might garner sufficient interest if something similar was reintroduced.
In the mean time, I’d be quite happy with better rail links and improved roads, especially the main highways into Bangkok.
