Don't forget guys, this is not just imprisonment, it's solitary confinement.

I guess it could be tough for some, I suppose, and maybe I'm being unfair. To me, it sounds like it is. 2 weeks in a hotel before you can go outside anywhere. Since I left Thailand, I spend 99.99% of my time alone so it would be a doddle (I don't much like people here

). For others, I guess it could be taxing.
And I certainly wouldn't do it unless I was on a 2+ month holiday.

I did the quarantine gratefully because it was my only chance to get back to my home.
I generally go to the states early February. In the states I spend time with my children, and grandchildren. I also help my son at his business which used to be my business. Working from mid February to mid April I can make $40,000 US
The trip also allows me to see friends and visit old haunts and restaurants.
I enjoy the time very much and, as you can see, it is profitable, but i will not go this year if I must quarantine.

It would be interesting if Thailand performed an antibody seroprevalence and t-cell reactivity study to show the existing level of immunity, which I suspect is quite high. But maybe they prefer to think they their government actions are responsible for 0 covid.
Wishful thinking. Confirmed cases are only 52 per million. (okay, I know that's probably understated). Unless we're talking of a 'natural immunity' of which there is no evidence, Thailand is at a high risk of infection should the virus cross our borders.

That's awesome. I've got a lot of respect for folk who hand down there business to their kids. Builds a shared interest between parent and child, too. Sorry... off topic.

So the fact that the hundreds of thousands of Chinese tourists (including from Hubei) that came over at the beginning of the year yet failed to kick off the pandemic here like in the west. But we are still perilously at risk?

So the fact that the hundreds of thousands of Chinese tourists
Bit of an exaggeration! Try 20,000 in January. Tour groups had already been banned by China and Thailand was already screening arrivals (and finding cases). Screening was started from Jan 3rd. The first case outside of China was discovered in Thailand. Later that month the first Thai was infected and the first case of person to person transmission.
Thailand got a handle on this long before other countries, probably because of the closeness and interaction with China. The cases found in Thailand prompted other countries to start preventative measures.
Also those Chinese that passed the screening test and entered the country probably wore masks because of what was already happening in their own country. Thai's often wear masks as normal, not due to the virus but due to pollution.
For the last 3+ months, mitigation like the wearing of masks has become less evident. We may be experiencing a false sense of security. Because of that, we, the population are more at risk if the virus breaches our borders.

In the January-March period, foreign tourist numbers in Thailand slumped 38% to 6.69 million, with the number of Chinese visitors down 60% to
1.25 million.

You clearly have an axe to grind on this subject, which surely can't be as simple as you don't like wearing a mask (who does?).
The problem in this case is that we have no way of knowing what the figures would be if no one was wearing them.

Quite - whether or not wearing a mask is proven to reduce the spread of the virus, it's a legal requirement for certain areas in many countries and the end of the day a pretty selfish act not to do so.
I simply cannot understand the difficulty in wearing a (lightweight) mask - unless you have severe respiratory problems (or mental issues and playing the "rebel against authority"). The law in the UK at least is hardly difficult to comply with - wear on public transport, wear in shops/confined spaces etc.

Actually the number of Chinese arriving at Swampy and Don Muang for Jan thru March was 227,595, a drop of 70% according to the ATTA of Thailand.
It depends which authority you believe and we all know how reliable figures are here.
Travel from Wuhan/Hubei was curtailed on Jan 23rd due to complete lockdowns of cities infected. Nothing in or out. It did appear in other parts of mainland China but later and much smaller numbers.
The effectiveness of masks have been proven by numerous studies around the world. After 9 months, many of these studies are conclusive.
Try reading:

Those advocating not wearing masks are a tiny minority, usually stating opinions rather than factual evidence.

And if I were to put up 10,000 videos from doctors (with every bit of the credentials that this fellow says he has) that tell us without reservation that masks SHOULD be worn and DO help stop the transmission of the virus then who would be correct? No, I'm not going to even try to do that but finding the 10K (or even 100K such videos) would not be hard to do.

Agreed, Centermid.
Science didn’t change
Exactly! It's science that has the evidence and it's science that most of us are quoting.
I would say that you, Nil, are one of the ones quoting politics.

I heard on 'Surf Radio' this morning that 19 Chinese illegals were arrested in Chiang Mai. All of them now in quarantine.
It's stated that they arrived here using natural border crossings! These borders must leak like a sieve.
Half of them didn't even have passports.
