Yes, I suppose it's utilitarian rather than aesthetic.
When I worked in Indonesia back in the 90s we drove Toyota Kijangs which were a similar thing based on a pickup. They didn't look much but they were large, could transport 9 people and were pretty reliable.

^ I'd certainly never have a go at Toyota "Pickups", but their SUVs can be monsters - impractical to say the least when it comes to the UK streets and not exactly the best for Thailand's cities I'm sure. Must admit though, a good idea to have a "tank" on Thailand's Highways!!

^I remember once driving from a bar to a nightclub in Jakarta with 14 people in a Toyota Kijang!
