Why did I know you were going to say that.
I had toyed with Chrome but did not like it, had a look at FireFox some time ago and maybe that is the way I will have to go.
I will give it some thought and maybe make the change soon.
Thanks for the advice.

Chrome is nowhere near the same class. I switched to FireFox a couple of months ago, and have been very happy with it.

True Chrome is rubbish.
I will be giving FF a try soon and let you know. I had heard that some sites require you to use IE, so I may keep it loaded alongside FF just in case.

Those sites that "require" IE are in for a shock since IE8 has now finally adopted web standards ...

Also I think Chromes OK for the casual user, just for surfing, preferable to IE anyway.

Problem: computer does not start. It just keeps loading and loading (Vista). Had this problem from time to time and solved it through unplugging and re-starting. Always been successful in two or three attempts. Not any more apparently after the blackout we had this afternoon.
Before it offered me the choice between something like "start normally" or "start in repair mode". When I choose the latter it would always start, but the choice is no longer there.
Guess the only option left is taking it to the shop? What about my Outlook contacts and e-mails, firefox favorites etc. Can they be saved?
Advice appreciated.

Will it start in Safe Mode?
Have you recently installed any new software or hardware on it?

Does not give me the choice to start in safe mode. Nothing installed recently other than the latest Java version.
I just let it do its loading and after 20-25 minutes Recovery Manager appeared. Busy with that now. Did not restart after choosing restore point. Recovery Manager told me this could happen and I have to run him again. In process now. Keep you posted.

Ok, when you restart press F8 before the windows screen appears and you'll get the option to boot to safe mode if you need it.
