Vaccines - Covid 19
Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
My husband (68) had his 2nd dose of AstraZeneca yesterday at Cha Am hospital, 1h45 waiting outside until being called, 15 minutes for paperwork and vaccination, 30 minutes mandatory waiting.
Following this got a pink paper certificate and the lady explained how to get it on the app, which (as we asked) she kindly did, the certificate on the app is green.
No pain or any other side effect.
Applied for international vaccine "passport" at Hua Hin hospital, waiting is 4 weeks now.

Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
Likewise, got my 2nd this week in Bangsaphan hospital. Vaccine took 15 minutes, paperwork nearly 2 hours.
A vaccine "number" is issued for farangs but it has letters in it so no good for Mor Phrom. I explained this to the staff and only one actually comprehended it so took my passport and ID card away for 45 minutes to enter everything into the system manually. Wasn't issued any paperwork on the day (they said come back a week later), but by the time I got back home, the app had updated and showed the green certificate and Digital Health Pass. No mention of any travel passports so will ask when I go back to collect the original cert.
Next day had achy bones and felt about 75, following day all good again.

From research done in Malaysia (report today from sky news in the UK)
Quote:
Sinovac vaccine highly effective against serious illness, real-world study shows
Despite concerns over the vaccine's effectiveness, the Chinese-made jab has been proven to provide strong protection against serious illness in real-world data from Malaysia.
In a study conducted by the Malaysian government, just 0.011% of about 7.2 million recipients of the shot needed ICU treatment for COVID.
However, this is still somewhat less effective than the Pfizer and AstraZeneca jabs. For these, 0.002% and 0.001% of patients respectively went to ICU with coronavirus.
Concerns had been raised about breakthrough infections in healthcare workers being given the Sinovac shot, but researchers said the breakthrough rate for ICU admission is "extremely low".
Many of the AstraZeneca recipients were in the "mid-adulthood age", while the Pfizer and Sinovac shots were "very much for the vulnerable population".

So that makes AZ - 11 times more effective than Sinovac at keeping you out of the ICU.

Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
We are on the list for our second jab on the 28th, Tuesday. . . .along with a thousand other lucky folks. No queue number. Apparently we all just show up on Tuesday and scramble. Does anyone have any strategy for doing this with the minimum amount of time spent "scrambling" and waiting around? Is waiting until afternoon a better way to go? We already plan to go by motorcycle, expecting a jammed parking lot even at 7:00 in the morning. Aside from bringing along lunch and a book to read . . .any suggestions are welcome! (Our first jab at Bang Sue was a total breeze. .. in and out in an hour. VERY well organized with friendly, helpful people at every step) .. . .one can only hope for a similar story Tuesday,
Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
Arrive between 7 and 7:30. There will be space in the car park at that time. Extremely well organised, and you'll be out by 8:30 latest.
[Edit] I aim to park on floor 5. Lifts up will be a problem. If you can't manage to walk to floor 9, get the down lift, and refuse to get out at the bottom. Stand your ground, and go up again.

‘Make peace with Sinovac’ if Thais wants to get back to normal, official says
Thais will have to make peace with the use of the Sinovac vaccine if they want the country to return to normal, a public health official told Thai Enquirer on Tuesday.
Infection numbers fell below 10,000 cases for the first time in weeks on Tuesday as the country prepared for more relaxation of quarantine rules and the capital rushed towards a November 1 reopening.
The lowering numbers was in-part due to the inoculation efforts of the government and the use of a Sinovac + AstraZeneca cocktail, according to an official at the Ministry of Public Health.
“If we sat around and waited for ‘better’ vaccines then we wont reopen until the middle of next year,” the official said on condition of anonymity fearing public pushback.
“The reason the numbers are lower is because we have ready access to Sinovac and we are able to import them in large numbers.”
The acquisition of millions of doses of Sinovac vaccine by the Ministry of Public Health has been scrutinized and criticized by opposition parties and the Thai public.
Many have questioned why Thailand sought to acquire a vaccine that was less effective at stopping infections and particularly vulnerable to the Delta Variant of the disease.
According to the public health officials, those fears need to be pushed aside as the government pushed for 70 per cent inoculation by the middle of October.
“I think we’re all a bit fatigued with quarantines and lockdowns and if we want to get past it we will have to get vaccinated with what we have now and get a booster later,” the official said.
“Sinovac lowers the death rate and goes some way towards preventing the spread of the disease. It is not perfect by far but it is something that we can do now. We have to make peace with the mistakes that were made along the way and work together to end this disease.”
