In the above story: Infected woman has DDC startled. 5th paragraph.

EDIT: We're going to have a few days of "save my ass" reports for sure.

OK, when I read that, I assumed they were referring to the public van service.

That could be true as well I guess. Whole van loads of people dodging immigration check points and health controls. Some big wig running the van service? Nothing here surprises me anymore.

Central Pattana Plc, the mall operator, said those who had been in contact with the woman while she was in the mall had been contacted by authorities and would proceed to a 14-day quarantine in line with protocols.
I wonder how many smart arsed Adolf Hitlers and Mickey Mouses who also gave false phone numbers are sat at home wondering why they haven't been contacted. Or does Covid differentiate, and avoid smart arses?
On Nov 24, she still had a fever, and developed a cough and a headache. Around 5am on that day, she travelled from Myanmar to Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai by public van.
And there was me thinking borders were closed. Mini buses are obviously exempt.
You said Thai Chana was not a contact app, so how could you be contacted? If you use a "smartphone" to sign in, there is no phone number.

I didn't say that, I think you'll find that is HHTel's theory.

Good god, I hope she's ok. Sounds horrendous. Hopefully she's under 80 and pulls through.

Sorry, but it's not my theory. This is from information provided by the developers.
The checked-in data will enable us to know places where people visit but we will not know who they are," he said. The data is used for displaying customer density at any given location.
The Thai Chana app will collect data only when you check in and check out. It is a spot-checking app. It is not a contact tracing app," said Prinya Hom-anek, a cybersecurity specialist.
Today, the Thai Chana platform does not ask for your mobile phone number when you check in. If you use the Thai Chana app, it will only ask for your mobile phone as part of the registration process.

"The app does not even ask for your name," said Somkid.
Krung Thai Bank have always maintained that it's only designed to highlight 'hot spots' and not able to track and trace.

I wonder what magic wand was used to identify the 326 persons then.

Incidentally, 326 seems a very small number considering she was in a shopping mall, cinema, etc. It indicates to me that The signing in was not working as planned.

Absolutely agree with your comment. I was only repeating the claim from the developers and the people on the committee in charge of Thai Chana.

Despite the confirmation by Krunthai Bank developers and others, this from the Disease Control Centre. Complete contradiction so what is to be believed? As you have stated, 326 seems to be low, especially considering that the only check-in for a shopping centre is once for the whole centre. It would seem that if contact tracing works, then everyone visiting that shopping centre are potential contacts.

All very confusing.
Citizens must scan the QR code when entering and exiting the place. Citizens also assess
the disease control standards of the establishment when exiting the place. User information
will be used if a COVID-19 case may have been in contact with that place. They will be
investigated and followed-up with case investigation and contact tracing procedures. If they
use www.ไทยชนะ.com, we will inform them through the application and if they scan the QR
code by their mobile camera, we will send them a notification via SMS.

There was no such claim with the original Thai Chana, but I refused to download the app.

The Thai Chana app does use the phone number. And iirc the web app the first time through with whatever browser asks for phone number.

Almost certainly, just regular, normal contact tracing. The public health officials ask the infected person where they've been and who they've been in contact with and just work onwards from there.

In addition, based on what's mentioned in the article, they had CCTV footage of her out and about in Chiang Mai, which would also help.

Reading the article, it sounds like it could be a combination of 1 and 2 - she may have both snuck across the border and taken a bus.
The DDC's Chiang Mai provincial committee says the woman entered the country illegally on Nov 24 through a natural border in Chiang Rai's Mae Sai district and took a public bus the same day to her condo in Chiang Mai.

Statements like this in the Bangkok Post make me cringe:
However, Chiang Rai governor Prachon Pratsakul said officials had decided to keep open the permanent checkpoint at the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge because to shut it would have an enormous impact on cross-border trade.
https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... RqVzGzclcc

I thought borders were closed, and nobody was exempt from quarantine. How is this guy allowed to make his own rules? Why is Chiang Rai exempt from the hardship that the rest of Thailand is suffering? Does this mean the Governor of Prachuap Kiri Khan can open up Hua Hin Airport to whoever he wants?
