Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra visited the province yesterday and handed over part of compensation amounting to about 300 million baht to about 70,000 flood-hit families
By my reckoning, that's about 4,000 baht for each family. :?

Thats a 1000 more than my wife and her family got last year, having had to abandon their home approx. 100km NE of Korat and losing everything. Only knee high this year

There was a post on here about a month ago saying the Patayya-HH ferry was not sailing anymore..
..can any of you folk on here confirm this..??
(one of my options for getting from Swampy to HH if Samut Sakorn was underwater would be to go via Patts + the ferry to Pak Nam Pran).
Any info greatly accepted..U.S.

You would have thought that the flooding would have provided numerous sea based transit options into/out of Bangkok?

Don`t know how reliable this is but anyway, here it is:

Rama II 'will be totally flooded'

http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews ... ly-flooded

Published: 7/11/2011 at 09:21 PM
Online news:

Assoc Prof Dr Seri Supratit, a GIS analyst from Rangsit University, in a daily flood analysis at TPBS noted:
Satellite pictures still show big mass of water having yet to reach Bangkok. It depends on how much the government can divert water mass into Chao Phraya river and Bang Pakong river to save Bangkok.

Chulalongkorn sluice gate sees declining water level yet again which means that floodwater in the fields is flowing back to Chao Phraya as well as coming downwards.

Present floodwater advacing into inner Bangkok from Vibhavadi and Phahon Yothin is still blocked at Khlong Bang Sue. Then the water mass is expected to overflows the canal's banks and then will move downwards towards Victory Monument.

Khlong Phasi Charoen is overflowing banks and the water is moving downwards toward Rama II Rd. People are advised to prepare for evacuation.

Dr Seri noted that his prediction and advice about evacuation one week ago for Phetkasem Rd comes true now. The advance warning is for people to prepare, not aiming to create panic. So is the warning for Rama II Rd being totally flooded.

The watermass head has yet to reach royally initiated water retention area at Mahachai canal. He is worried about slow advance of the floodwater on Thonburi side, which means that various canals in the areas are poorly maintained and cannot efficiently expedite waterflow.

This means that the water mass will slowly advance and build up power and volume.

When it does reach Samut Sakhon, which has thousands of factories, he is afraid that the flood barriers erected at 2.5 metres, tall enough but may not strong enough to withstand the power of floodwater in the fields moving down en masse.

The case of all 7 industrial estates in Ayutthaya and Pathum Thani should provide enough warning.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

I will be come back home in about a weeks time, provisionally planning to fly into Bangkok, then down to Phuket and then get the driver to pick me up. Then do the reveres trip after about a week or so, it's a bit of a bummer, but considering what other people are going through no big deal.

If I end up in Phuket, I'll try for that super VIP bus that comes thru' HH about 19.00hrs daily.

BANGKOK, Nov 7 -- Floodwater is spreading into inner Bangkok as water surged into the Suthisarn Tunnel on Ratchadapisek Road, closing traffic, while car parks at the BTS Mo Chit Skytrain are totally flooded, with water moving toward Saphan Khwai on Phahonyothin Road.

Water began covering the road surface at the BTS Skytrain Kamphaeng Phet station, overflowing from the drainage system and is now 20cm deep.

Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, from Lat Phrao intersection to Khlong Bang Sue, has all lanes flooded, particularly at Thai Rath newspaper office which is under 50cm water which kept rising during the night. Small vehicles cannot pass. Water is reportedly heading to Din Daeng intersection.

Behind the Thai Rath office, on Phahonyothin Road and Television Channel 7 office, water is higher than the footpath, but BTS Skytrain service and MRT underground trains are operating normally.

At 10am, Minister of Justice Pracha Promnog who directed the Flood Relief Operations Centre (FROC) was scheduled to meet Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra at FROC headquarters at the Energy Ministry to discuss the FROC plan to provide water pumps to Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to drain water from Bangkok areas. Bangkok needs to follow Tokyo's example:

Tokyo's gigantic flood prevention system
The Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel, also known as the G-Cans Project or the "Underground Temple", is an subterranean water infrastructure project built to protect the capital Tokyo against floodwaters during rain and typhoon seasons. It is believed to be one of the largest water collection facilities in the world. Building began in 1992 and the massive structure now consists of five concrete silos, a large water tanks and 59 pillars connected to a number of pumps that can pump up to 200 tons of water into the Edogawa River per second. It has also become a tourist attraction, as well as a location for movies, TV shows and commercials.

It looks like they are going to let Rama II (aka hwy 35) flood but try to keep an alternate Route 340 open between Bangkok and the south.
