Everything in that game was about Liverpool, how many goals they could be serious about scoring, and by not treating it seriously, by not doing the basics, how many goals they conceded. Spurs were just there to make up the numbers, that's all.
Son was next to useless. Maddison even more so. The best player is Kulusevski.

Tennis score Lost!
At least I predicted the correct result (1-2) ie an away win
A tad off on the scoreline though by a factor of 3!

Entertaining football to be sure, but a managers nightmare - even Slot will be a bit disappointed at letting in 3 goals, but overall a very impressive win and with Chelsea only managing a 0-0 draw, Liverpool have a fairly comfortable cushion at the top of the table.

"Exactly half the time - in 16 seasons out of 32 - the team top of the Premier League table on Christmas Day goes on to win the title.
This is the seventh time the Reds have stood first on 25 December - but their only success since the top-flight's 1992 rebrand was in 2019-20."

Some interesting looking games today - will Man City end their run of bad results and kickstart their season? Elsewhere you expect Chelsea and Liverpool to continue their good form, normally the Boxing Day fixtures serve up some high scoring games so

Well, I put a jinx on the high scoring hopes and also on Chelsea, who were beaten at home by Fulham (deservedly so IMO) - Liverpool were comfortable winners and at least City avoided defeat, despite Haaland’s best efforts!! Newcastle were also comfortable winners, with Man U continuing their poor form. Will Arsenal close the gap on Liverpool later today?Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 3:34 pm Some interesting looking games today - will Man City end their run of bad results and kickstart their season? What are we, half way through the season and is any team really healthy? Every article I read has key players out, and some positions not even manned, such as Newcastle centre back. I would be surprised if these players don't strike eventually over schedules.

Actually, with it being Saturday, I've just checked to see who is playing today. Not a single English game
. Back in the day, when I was a mere whippersnapper, I remember games being played back to back during holiday periods (I actually remember attending 2 away and one home games in 3 days for Plymouth). OK, there are European games to contend with now, but the big teams surely have the squads to handle it.
Mind you, footballers were men back then, not the prima donnas we see today.

Oh well, you only have to wait until tomorrow - today’s footballers need an extra days rest to allow for the food to digest and the alcohol to wear off!!
Re: Premier League 2024-25
I'm not sure this is the right thread to discuss this baby, but as PeteC mentioned the fitness levels of footballers, being overworked these days, it is worth a mention. Look at this newspaper article from 1940 where Watford and Luton played each other home and away (morning and afternoon) on the same day.
Regarding the Norwich vs Brighton result, there were obvious travel restrictions at that time. Only 5 Brighton players made the trip. They asked for volunteers from the crowd before the match.
As I repeatedly say - prima donnas these days. Snowflakes, the lot of them. When I was a lad, during summer holidays, it was nothing to go out by 10 each morning, and get home as it was getting dark. We'd be playing football all day.

Re: Premier League 2024-25
I’m not exactly disagreeing with you BB, but the intensity of the game today is far higher than it was back in the 40’s or when you were “kicking about” with your mates.
During my “low standard” playing days, it was not unusual that due to fixture congestion at the end of season, we would play teams that we’d missed playing earlier in the season, in two 1 hour games of 30 minutes each half, with 15 minutes in between games - and we were relatively unfit amateurs.

And VAR decide it's not a RED - impressive system!! Probably a good job he can't hit the target even from that range...

Premier League 2024-25
I’ve watched the scene numerous times and I’m absolutely certain he never intended to hit the opponent, he was just venting his frustration at being pulled back. Definitely in the “old days” where there’s no intent then a yellow card would have been the maximum penalty - these days who knows?pharvey wrote:And VAR decide it's not a RED - impressive system!!
