Most providers charge data on a time limit or per gigabyte so you need an unlimited data package if you want to stream TV with it.

Yes I'm aware of that.

But my point is that as far as I'm concerned I do have unlimited data(see below)

Your Data 10Mbps + Unl Call 30Day has been successfully renewed and valid until 02/10/2563 at 23.59hrs. It will be automatically recurred every 30 days.

Whenever I top up I get showered with freebies and eligibility for this and that

Maybe I should hook up again and let that supplementary package run out and see what happens

Need to know if I can operate without fixed line Internet(WiFi)

Thanks

My Tru package is unlimited calls /Internet 1Mbps 200 baht month (which works fine when I'm moving around even for YouTube etc)
I don't think 1Mbps would be anywhere near enough to stream TV. My phone package gives me so many Gb of high speed internet per month, and then unlimited low speed (1Mbps). Low speed is OK for Google enquiries, but definitely not streaming TV.

The other thing I would warn you about is True are not the most transparent company. I had serious problems with them, which forced me to quit, and only this week I've been reading complaints from a host of people who had similar problems. I honestly can't see you getting very much for 200฿/month. Their product is very good, but their customer care is less than perfect. Be careful.

Agree, unlimited data, high speed mobile packages are closer to 1,000 baht per month - you wont get much for 200!

-Agree with both of you hence precisely why I'm seeking feedback now

-it's actually 10mbps(as per text from Tru) 10 Mbps is 1.25 MBps (if im not mistaken?) as per previous message actually getting just under 3 and have just got 5.2

-just waiting for this 'supplementary' pack to run out....

-that all said it seems be streaming quite well.... but I really do take on board what you say

-i suppose I could always upgrade my package if I really wanted to live in this place which has no Internet/WiFi (it would hopefully just be a cost issue)

Thanks

You seem to be confusing speed with data. One figure is the advertised maximum theoretical speed it will run at (on Thai servers in Megabytes or bits, MBps/Mbps per second), and the other is the amount of data you can transfer before the package runs out (in Gigabytes). The second metric needs to be unlimited since streaming uses a lot of data, and the first needs to be as high as possible for streaming without buffering problems.

At what point do you think I'm confusing data/speed?

Ive stated(twice now in fact) that I have an unlimited data package(as per true text)

I just happened to mention the speed that I'm supposed to get(and am getting) for that service

If you still think I'm getting it wrong please correct me

Ps I'm still concerned whether I'm actually 'allowed' to tether under True's policy for this package.... something in the back of mind says 'they don't support that' (well, they would say that wouldn't they!)

BB, it's 10mbps (my typo earlier)

Thoughts now?

If still not enough, what is enough?

Thanks

10Mbps would do it, but as Buksi has already suggested, you will have a capped data download limit. If you have unlimited 10Mbps data download for 200฿ per month, I take my hat off to you. Well done. Mind you, even at that extraordinary price you wont find me rushing back to True any time soon. I wonder if you confused between data down load speed and data limits/capping.

On the day of the Thai FA Cup final last year, England were due to have their arses handed to them by South Africa in the Rugby World Cup Final. I didn't want to miss either, so bought an additional 10 Gb of data for my phone, which I tethered to my tablet by hotspot at the stadium before the football. You ask how much data you would need for all your TV needs - you will need an unlimited data package,

If I do have a capped limit its the first I've heard of it(they message me each month on renewal saying unlimited, no mention of caps but if they are shady like you suggest then they wouldn't would they?!)

Guess I'll just have to ask them...

I've had it running for hours now(a few blips but not nothing major) so pretty sure that that supplementary package has expired, although wouldve expected an SMS to confirm that.

Guess I'm now eating into my actual 'unlimited' package. Waiting for the next SMS warning message to arrive!

Yes, please ask them. One thing you haven't mentioned is whether you are pre or post paid. If post paid, they will happily let you run up a crazy bill.

Sorry I thought my copy SMS from Tru clarified this, I am PRE pay. I have to make sure I have enough credit on my phone and then they deduct the 200baht and apply the package every 30 days.

I spoke to Tru and they confirmed four times that I have *unlimited data *. The supplementary package was something I got for free as part of a top up, which confused me as to why would they give me something that I clearly do not need. Hence the 'you've only got 30MB left' SMS started all this off last night.(that 500MB freebie package went in about 30 mins Image)

Anyway, thanks to Buksi I now know how to hook up PC to mobile hotspot now and streaming off 10Mbps is pretty decent last 24 hours or so to be fair.

Its just a pity that my current great value package expires at the end of next month!

She offered me a new one which was basically same as current one(all calls/networks free, unlimited data at 10Mbps) but I could keep it 'forever'. But it involved switching from pre pay to post pay... plus a mere 75% increase in price(200 to 349b/month).... Er, no thanks Luv!

I'll wait till my last week of this package to see what else is around, even if it means switching networks, but I appreciate the deal I had was a belter!

But if anyone has been shopping around for similar SIM only calls/data packages I'd be interested to swap notes, even if limited to 12 months.

Thanks

I am stuck.
I have gone to log back into my tablet and I have put the correct PIN number in but it keeps telling me to try again in 30 seconds and when I do I get the same response. It doesn't say that the PIN is incorrect as it has when I have made a mistake. What can I do?
It's a Samsung Tab A
Hope you can help

It seems to be a "feature " of Google/Samsung. Press the off button and the down volume button at the same time making it reboot. It is quite common apparently. All sorted now 🙂.

Computer Strangeness

Post by handdrummer »

What does it mean when the little blue circle is spinning on my screen and the screen keeps flashing on and off? This has happened several times in the past 4 days. Eventually it stops and everything's back to normal but it is annoying.
