Doesn't matter where you go if theres a trouble spot and you get caught up in it, you will more than likely be on your own. Now I know most people are savvy on here, but not everyone will carry on regardless.

JDwhen i went to bed last night i had the same take on it a tactical mistake by the red shirts
i was surprised the rest didnt happen when i got up this morning

i was talking to some people last night and asked will all this money from the govt agriculture minister stop all this and would it get the democrats voted in
answer
no its only giving the money they stole from thaksin to the people he would have given it to anyway

only time will tell on that one but it amused me how quickly that vote buying trip was reversed

Having been stuck here for ten days by a volcano, I would also be wary of coming to Thailand at the moment, not for the danger but because of the chance of getting stuck here by political transport disruption.
On the subject of insurance, generally you won't get covered for areas where there is FCO warning in place unless you get specialist cover.

This is the same money that Thaksin stole from Thailand in the first place I presume.

If the reds could only distance themselves from him and stop f'king up their own country I'm pretty sure they would get a greater following and one that is not financially motivated by daily payouts.

Until then mobs of any shirt colour are purely hypocritical.

The travel advisories are doing more damage to Thailand's tourism industry than anything else, warning against travel to all parts of the Kingdom is just mindless. Sure Hua Hin will be mobbed this weekend ... with teenagers listening to the T-Bone ska band on the beach.

Actually now starting to see more serious issues work-wise. We have a repair/maintenance job on some equipment up near Lampang which for one reason or another had been postponed earlier, but now needs to go ahead with some urgency before it has a detrimental effect on other equipment/processes. However with the continued demonstrations and now the issues of insurance, sub-suppliers are refusing to send out the necessary equipment and supervision......... I'm hoping the Thai customer will be understanding, but am not holding my breath. Could cause us real problems if this goes on for any length of time.

Its going to get messy:

Yellows return to Thailand's color-coded protests
Thailand's long-silent Yellow Shirt activists demanded military action against anti-government Red Shirt protesters Thursday and an end to "anarchy" in the capital, a day after clashes turned a busy expressway into a deadly battle zone.

Source: AP

Shame nobody urged military action when that mob took over an international airport.

Its all in an individuals perception to some tax evasion isnt theft and while i may agree with you, there are a hell of a lot of Thais that dont and consider the theft of their votes far more heinous

Well who ever is running the country needs to realise that the visa rules for farangs need to change for short and long term visitors and spouses, if they want to attract holiday makers short and long term back, then they need to realise us farang aliens :alien: are very good for the Thai economy.

If you have never been to Thailand, and you have seen all the political unrest in the media you are not going to visit here especially with no insurance cover.

Tit for tat - same thing with the Police not doing their job with the reds now.

Going round in circles ... and not just with the eyes  there has never been a fair and legal election in this country, period. And there has never been "democracy".

Funny the REDS came out after the court took Thaksins money...they also say they come empty handed for a peaceful demonstration...honest bunch.

When you sell a company or shares and make a profit through the SET in Thailand it is exempt from tax. Thaksin is not in trouble for tax evasion. Its a misuse of power.

It looks as though the trouble is spreading. It is not only the UK Foreign Office advising people to avoid travelling to Thailand, but other countries too. Sky news last night had the British Ambassador broadcasting telling nationals not to go there. I hope that it can be resolved soon for everyone's sake, the Thai people the Expats, tourists. A worrying time. Have a look at this link
