The Crime of the Century (2021): Official Trailer | HBO

Big Pharma sold America a lie and made a killing.

The Crime of the Century, an HBO original documentary from Alex Gibney, exposes the billions of dollars gained and thousands of lives lost due to the opioid crisis
Have not seen the video yet, but it's hardly a secret that "Big Pharma" are complete and utter **************. Quite frankly, US citizens need to be educated - masses seem to be completely brainwashed and seemingly completely clueless on numerous issues..... We have our problems in the UK, but the US certainly takes the biscuit.

This one is with your ears only on BBC sounds, but seems it could be very good. Introduction is in the long read BBC article at the second link.

In a similar vain, but much older now, have you seen the documentary about the the companies such as Monsanto selling genetically modified seed, fertilisers, pesticides and then esstially litigating farmers because of the patents. It is staggering what they get away with.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Re: TV series worth watching/downloading

Just watched a fascinating episode (2 of 4) on BBC - 'Spy in the Wild'. Nature documentary using robotic animals, snakes, birds and others, equipped with cameras. These robots are pretty lifelike and able to interact with their species even to the point of 'spy beaver' swimming underwater watching the building of a dam.
There's a spy-monkey, spy-humming bird, spy-snake, spy-beaver and more. I was more fascinated with what these 'spy creatures' were able to do than the actual content, although good.
However, there were obviously the more traditional cameras used to film the robots.
Well worth a watch if only for the technology.

Not so much a documentary but a film made by the BBC in 1930 giving a profile of Siam. It covers the death of Rama VI and the coronation of Rama VII.

Interesting.

You can't get any more British then a moustached man wearing a pith hat talking about the Far East with a slight condescending theme. 😂

Just got through the first couple of episodes of Born to be Wild on Netflix. Really good. The guy is the typical nutter, often getting bitten by the animals he's disturbing! Lots of interesting facts thrown in.

Survivalist Andrew Ucles explores the jungles, rivers and plains of three continents with the residents who knows them best: ...the animals.

I always enjoy a good survivalist show. Man vs Wild. Naked and Afraid. The Island...

This is a good 'un, too.

2021 seems to be the year of The Beatles docs.

Out now. Mcartney 321. A 6 parter with Macca in conversation with legendary producer Rick Rubin. Some fascinating insights into the making of The Beatles/Wings tracks.

McCartney: Now and Then..Aug 30th release.
Paul McCartney gained worldwide fame as the bass guitarist and singer for The Beatles. In this authorised documentary, Paul McCartney talks candidly about his contribution to The Beatles, his relationship with John Lennon and much more. With contributions from esteemed peers, George Martin and Donovan, plus more, this is a must-watch for any fan of McCartney and The Beatles. IMDB.

Then the one I've been waiting for all year Peter Jackson's (Titanic), The Beatles: Get Back November release
Documentary about the music group The Beatles featuring in-studio footage that was shot in early 1969 for the 1970 feature film 'Let It Be.' IMDB

I must admit that I didn't know very much about the Jonestown massacre of 1978. I've just watched a docu/drama of the last days of the People's Temple which culminated in the deaths of over 900 followers. Some committed suicide by order and anyone refusing were killed anyway. Not sure whether it's downloadable but the full documentary (1 hour 40 mins) is available on youtube:

This feature-length docudrama tracks the final build-up to a horrific doomsday: the infamous mass murder and suicides of Jim Jones’ cult followers in the jungles of Guyana, where over 900 men, women and children died on November 18th, 1978.

Using extensive dramatic re-enactments, newly-released U.S. government information, as well as archival footage and interviews, Jonestown: Paradise Lost goes beyond ‘official reality’ to take the viewer deep into the inner workings of this monstrous cult and its apocalyptic end.
Why are these very extreme cults, with hundreds/thousands of followers appear to be, in general, confined to the US. There are over 10,000 cults in the US today!
