The government has announced it will adopt the so-called vaccine passport, a certificate of vaccination, for use with Covid-19 vaccination in Thailand as an official travel document for those already vaccinated against Covid-19 and travelling to other countries.

The Royal Gazette on Tuesday published a copy of the format of the vaccine passport along with an order by the Disease Control Department authorising a number of disease control officials to issue the vaccine passport.

Both the format of the vaccine passport and the order were approved by department director-general Dr Opas Karnkawinpong.

On the cover of the approved vaccine passport format there is Thai-English text that reads "Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand", a garuda emblem and more text reading "Covid-19 Certificate of Vaccination".

The name of the vaccination certificate holder and his or her passport or national identification number is typed in English certifying that the certificate holder has already been vaccinated against Covid-19.

Only vaccinations using vaccines registered in Thailand or ones certified by the World Health Organisation will be issued with the vaccine passport, while the signature of an authorised disease control official is required to validate the passport.

The vaccination certificate is intended for an individual holder only, not for group use. Children aged under seven must have their parents' signatures on their vaccine passports, while those who are unable to write are required to give a fingerprint on the passport instead.

Six disease control officials meanwhile are now authorised to sign a vaccine passport when it is issued.

Will be a looong time before everyone has one of those ....

Maybe, if the first is still alive.

Govt: Sinovac jab 'safe to use'
The Public Health Ministry insists the Sinovac vaccine is safe and it will continue to administer it, despite seven people suffering stroke-like symptoms after receiving it.

The ministry's announcement came after Dr Thiravat Hemachudha, director of the Health Science Centre of Emerging Diseases at Chulalongkorn University's faculty of medicine, revealed on Facebook on Tuesday that seven people had suffered stroke-like symptoms after being given the Chinese company's jab.

Officials say all seven -- six in Rayong and one in Chon Buri -- regained full health after doctors gave them medication to dissolve blood clots.

The last thing the junta wants to do is piss off China, the population comes second. Though to keep the news 'balanced' the report did go on to say that those suffering from it had pre-existing conditions.

Meanwhile, over 99% of the population remain without a believable vaccine programme in sight. Love him or hate him, Thaksin did deliver on a lot of promises to mainstream Thais.

Yes, he feathered his own nest along the way, but that is just part of the job description in Thailand.

:agree:

And it would appear that the majority of Thais would welcome his return.

If he's so full of philanthropy why doesn't he set up the deals himself? Then present them to the Thai government, which would then look really bad if they refused to even consider them. The reason is that Thaksin has no influence with vaccine producers, except maybe Sputnik V, which I doubt, and the Chinese are already here anyway.

I remember him promising giant pumps from Korea during the big floods a few years ago. They never appeared.

It's just PR.

Of course it's PR. However, he revolutionised Isaan when I was a regular visitor. The change in a very short period was incredible. From dirt tracks to roads, from walking miles with buckets to obtain water for the villages to running water + much more.

Just him saying he could do it should be enough to spur the current Gov't into action. He will make much of the situation if they don't deliver.

I think most would agree (even those that hated him) that Thaksin would be a better alternative than the current bunch of imbeciles.

Anyway, back to vaccines :offtopic:

Until enough of the population turned against him then, he'd have them killed.
For now, there's not a really good alternative to the present govt.

Breaking News from NNT
Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has announced on his social media channel that the Russian government has agreed to a government-to-government deal to purchase the Sputnik V vaccine.

General Prayut already assigned the Ministry of Public Health to proceed with the negotiation with the vaccine’s manufacturer.
