Chinese seem to have put a ban on exporting their cold winds from the northern snowfields. Probably something to do with Trumps threats. 8)

Current warm air flow from the east, related to a big area of high pressure to the east of the Philippines, appears to be blocking the colder air from the North. Definitely not winter yet!

Knowing how localised weather can be here in Hua Hin, I have to ask if last night's weather just after midnight was widespread or very localised. I've never known anything like it. The noise woke me up, and I couldn't figure out what it was - I had to ask Mrs BB what was happening as I've never heard wind and rain sound like that before.

Our bathroom windows are directly below a considerable roof overhang - rain was driving through the small open windows.
We have a covered patio about 6' above ground level where our dogs sleep at night. I stepped out to see if the dogs were OK, and it was flooded.

I've done an external inspection this morning, expecting to find damage - thankfully everything is in tact.

Certainly the craziest hour of weather I've ever known. I'm amazed nobody else has mentioned it.

I agree Big Boy, it was an unusually strange event last light. Here in Soi 114 area it hit right around 1am, torrential rain, strong gusting wind, violent thunder / lightening. It appeared to be exactly over top of my house and very very close. Shortly after it started we lost one leg of our electricity, creating a brownout condition where only some circuits in the house are energized. Hours later, now at 7:30am, our electricity is still not restored. Opps, electricity was just restored as I was typing.

Ha, Ha, I am glad that I am not the only one! I am In Lopburi and exactly the same happened here. I am in the top floor room of a hotel that may have a metal roof, and it woke me up. I also have not heard a noise like this since I was a kid on a farm and the house did have a metal roof! Bloody weird to be honest. I had to get up and look outside just to make sure I was not dreaming. Still raining here, although it has eased off.

The synoptic is showing a strong easterly airflow associated with the edge of a large high pressure area over China, and a very long extensive area of low pressure from the Pacific all the way to India. Weird!

And all respect to the several Thai's last night who chose to stand out in that deluge to direct traffic around the flash floods in the centre of town. I don't know who they were, they weren't in any kind of uniform but it was well beyond what you could expect anyone to do at 01:30 in the morning under that storm.

And the same out here near the Energy project south of Cha Am - I’ve never seen as many leaves on the floor (and in the pool) in the 6-7 years I’ve been here

Same down here in Bang Saphan. Had the added pleasure of a palm frond going through the roof at 2:00am. Just missed the toilet by 1/2 meter.

Thanks guys, I was thinking I'd upset the storm gods. I checked the forum, checked social media and came up with zilch. I thought it must have been very localised.

I was on the way from BKK to HH, and it hit us big time north of Petchaburi. It was still a drizzle when we arrived HH around 03:00.

Glad to hear that the weather provided some rain, as the local dams could likely use the
water for the dry period later in Winter. One month til I arrive in good old HH. Hope the
weather patterns are drier after that at least for a few weeks.

Some unusually heavy rain for December coming down today - I guess this could be one of the last heavy rains until April/May next year?
