Bar Wars or Car Parking Wars
Hi Bella,I dont know the owner of the limelight, but i know the owner of the massage/bar you mention.
not a nice guy to be around,my thai wife was renting the small salon, opposite peters pub ( lord nelson) when in the early hours of new year,This thai man fired a gun at the golf shop which joins my wifes shop.
hence one hole in the window and a few holes in the wall.
apparently he does not like the old man who rents the golf shop,( neither do i as he ripped of my wife by not returning her deposit of 50,000 baht when she left the shop in june this year) normally i would not have taken an interest in such things but as my wifes daughter was sleeping in the shop at the time of this incident i was not 2 happy with all this.
On the night in june approx 2 am when my wife and i went to her shop to clear out her belongings and furniture,i parcked my pickup outside the limelight and was carrying furniture etc from my wifes shop when i saw 2 thai men leaning on the front of my pickup (friends of the thai man that owns the massage shop)
i got in my truck.and still they would not move,so i started the engine put it in gear and put my foot on the accelarator driving a few metres forward.
(they soon moved) giving me some nasty looks and mouthing off in thai.
I have always stood my ground and never backed down, nothing more came of this incedent, but on past experiance there has always been probs on parking anything in selecam.

All these stories have left my jaw wide open.
The reason being that when I am in Thailand I stay with my wife and her family in Huay Sai Tai - Cha Am and visit Hua Hin regularly (being closer than Cha Am).
Everywhere I go I drive my father in-laws pick-up (which he treats like his baby) and I have parked in nearly every main street in Hua Hin. Have I been very fortunate not to have gotten the car scratched?
All these stories have made me really think about getting the bus or a taxi next time to save any damage on my father in-laws pick-up.
Maybe there is a service where you can pay a Thai to stand and guard your car while you getting a meal or whatever.

Howard sold up a year ago.Bella wrote:....................
What sort of place is the Limelight Bar, I come here because I like talking to Howard, not come here again.
For some reason that little area where the five roads join seems to have always had violence problems. There was quite a nasty gang fight there before Eddy's and the massage parlor were opened. It was the first time I had seen police with arms drawn in Hua Hin.

Hi Bella - is that Penny who used to have Sabai (think thats the name) on Selakem with Roger?
Anyway yes Guess, its a trouble area for sure, which is a shame because that junction is a handy short cut. The main focus for the gang gathering used to seem to be that Argentinian place that never was. Rumoured to have been bought as a 'front' for other business. Don't know if it's still there in it's un-opened state but some Thai lads certainly had access to it at one time.

Re: Bar Wars or Car Parking Wars
I heard it was two guys who fell out with each other before the place got started. Anyway that is the place referred to in this post as the massage parlor. I think there are two businesses in the building.margaretcarnes wrote:............... be that Argentinian place that never was. We maybe both thinking of the same Penny. She was the partner of Steve Ross and ran the bar in Soi Selekarm that Howard took over and called Lewis's and is now Lucky Shot.
She also ran Limelight with Steve Ross before Howard had it so she could be back. She has to work somewhere.

If you read back you will see that my first reaction was that a truck shouldn't be there in the first place. I am no longer in Hua Hin but when I was I was an advocate of making Selakarm, Bintabaht and Poolsuk into a walking area.raphoedon wrote:...........What about the kids
I don't really see too many kids down there though.

The Thai guy who runs the Thai Massage/Bar is opening a Restaurant/Bar along the Temple wall oposite the Plaza his nme is Ratchet. He hates foriegner's but is quick to take their money, he owns the landFairways is on (new name now).
Penny used to run the Limelight and 99 bar's a few years ago, her daughter still works at Limelight as a BG, she has been a BG now for 4 years that I know. I know family's here turn a blind eye when one of their Kin works as a BG but to promote therfore pimp your daughter I find astonishing, tells a lot about a person.
These are not the nicest people in Hua Hin.

Bar Wars or Car Parking Wars
This is, I know, going off topic, but prompted by Bellas' comment - (quite rightly Mod'ed IMO.) I don't think that any of us should be judgmental, or indeed make assumptions, about the way our Thai friends and acquaintances choose to live or work.
It is their country. The bars mentioned - and many others - depend a lot on expat/tourist money. The term 'BG', as used, infers a certain standard which I for one find quite offensive.
Please let's not forget that many of our colleagues on here no doubt met their partners in bars, just as people often do in their home countries.

Back to the topic then Margaret! The blame for the problems with parking and violence in Hua Hin lay firmly at the door of both the Tessabaan and the police. In Patong beach in Phuket they have introduced a 1 way system and for the evening most of the interconnecting roads, where the bars and restaurants are located are closed to vehicles. In Pattaya come 18.00hrs Walking Street is closed not only to cars but also to motorcycles and the tourist police have a golf buggy. Here in Hua Hin the tourist police have a container/portakabin at the bottom of the beach road, conveniently placed for sweet nothing except of course r&r. The intelligent thing to do is to close Bintabart, 5 ways and the surrounding streets to all traffic including motorcycles from 18.00hrs but as I say that is intelligent. Not much chance of implementing it anyway, the local police can not even prevent a continual stream of motorcycles, cars and tuk tuks going the wrong way at high speed down the road outside the pier restaurants. A member of the staff of the tessabaan once told me that Hua Hin does not rely for its income on tourism ( as industry is banned in Hua Hin I see no other means of income) but gains its income from the bars and restaurants and hotels!!! Ok no arguing there, but if that is right members of the tessabaan, how about making life a bit better and safer for those people using those business’s and contributing to the wellbeing of all in Hua Hin, oh and of course your personal income. Chomsin rd is a classic example of parking rules not being implemented, designated parking areas, common areas therefore the property of the tessabaan, yet all you can see is row upon row of packing case, a wooden table and selfishly parked motorcycles, including the guest house’s with rows of motorcycles for rent and a really pretty rickshaw preventing people using a legal parking space. I once almost got a ticket because I parked beside a packing case which meant that the offside of my car was outside the parking bay. I also had a thai woman sit on my car outside a booze wholesaler at 1.00am because I was parked outside her shop that had been closed for hours, I think she got out of bed to do it! SJ said about parking outside business’s, I regularly watch as people, both farangh and thai park cars, pickups and motorcycles right across my office door so that no one can get in or out, when I point out the problem they look startled and mostly move. Engaging the brain prevents parking and all other wars. Parking is a mess everywhere you work, visit or live, always caused either by selfishness or lack of education, which sector do you fall into?
