Pancake day

Post by Arcadian »

Mardi gras, French for fat Tuesday was when all the good things to eat were eaten up as Lent began the next day when all good Christians had to give up the pleasures of life.

Sarge - Hunny Steamed Pud commemorates Paddington Bear Day, which falls on the day P Bear is said to have been adopted by C Robin.
Afficionados gather at Paddington Station buffet, where the pudding is served all day. Platforms are decorated with streamers of paper wellington boots and little duffel coats.
A similar event is planned for Kings Cross to mark Harry Potter Day, but the tourist board can't agree on a menu. A suggestion for Bats Wing soup was vetoed by the RSPCA.
Here in Sleepy Hollow we often have Nutty Fruitcake day...

Did anyone mention tossing pancakes :D

I think condensed milk makes a nice filling or just a 'cadburys' flake rolled up inside :thumb:

If you make Delia`s recipe just a little more liquid a golden syrup spong pudding does brilliantly in the microwave, takes only about 2 minutes.

a biker mate back in London used to make these lovely full pan yet thin pancakes, roll them round a mixture of whipped cream with a spot of honey and vanilla and fine chopped fruit and blueberries, then put them in the fridge till the cream sort of set.....oh man were they delish.

The funniest bit was when I asked where he'd learned the recipe he said off a cell mate in Pentonville. Tony looked like Vinnie Jones yet could cook like Kieth Floyd.....just goes to show rehabilitation does work sometimes

Hi Moja - got my bears mixed up? Oh heck, blame it on senior moments then. Yes - it was Winnie the Pooh. Sorry!
Anyway, Sarge, you can't really go wrong wiv' Delia so I'm thinking - was there a technical reason for the collapse? You should really use greaseproof paper to cover the pud, and (most important this,) make a little pleat in the paper over the top of the pud. This allows for expansion of the mixture during steaming.
Put simply - it won't fluff up if it hasn't got the space. Have another go!

in the old days of steaming puddings in the microwave I covered them with cling film but then it was decided that cling film was poisonous so I changed to kitchen roll and just placed a sheet over the top and a perfect pudding everytime.
