British Foreign Secretary David Miliband yesterday said the United Kingdom took the decision to revoke the entry visa for ex-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra because a Thai court had sentenced him to a two-year jail term.

I've been thinking about this since the announcement and while we may chuckle and think "som-num-na" (serves you right), has anyone considered that there maybe some backlash towards UK citizens getting visa extensions in Thailand? Afterall Thaksin's family and cronies still run the government here.

True that Buksi - the house lease business. (Wish he HAD suffered the same restrictions in the UK though! But I suppose if we let an Arab own Harrods well...)
Interestingly though in the mid 1850s when the first Embassies were being built in Bangkok, the same flaming lease hold probs applied, so its nowt new. Apparently the Brits tried to get around the problem by putting the property in a servants name. Didn't go down too well.
