The Toon start small, but at least they're doing something to improve their ranks. I have no idea about this man. Pete

So disapointing and I'm not sure I still really get it? But I do wish him well. :thumb:

I have to say that I would have liked Joe Cole to have gone to Arsenal, but I suppose it is just another example of money over ambition typical of many English players. He earlier expressed his wish to stay in London because of his young family, but £80,000 a week was not enough for him, so he chose a club without Champions league football many miles from home. If he was desperate for money it would have been understandable.

Greed seems to be the driving force by much too many football player nowadays, sad really. Nevertheless, I too wish Cole good luck at Liverpool but like you I had preferred him to join the Gunners.

Ambition? What have Arsenal won in the last FIVE years?

Maybe he wanted to play regular football at one of the biggest clubs in world football with a couple of the worlds greatest players, just a thought.

Everybody makes far to much of an issue about Champions League football, he could have joined Arsenal or Spurs and played just 1 season in the Champions League, nobody is guaranteed to qualify next year, certainly not Arsenal and Spurs.

OK Baa Baa, 10 out of 10 for your optimism, usual for this time of year for you I believe. Even you have to agree that Liverpool have been on a downward slope for a couple of seasons. I looked back at your pre-season predictions for last year, not very accurate were they? What pearls of wisdom do you have for us this year?

Gotta say that the comments of the Gooners fans smack a little of sour grapes to me! I know BaaBaa thought the sun shined out of Benitez's a**e, but to the rest of us he didn't have much of a clue and bought largely mediocre plodders from abroad - I don't think for one minute Cole would have gone to the scousers if he was still there.

But its a new era and it appears he's gonna get to play in his preferred role and when was the last time they bought English?

There's no way he would have gone to Spurs after 7 years at the Bridge, even with 'Arry in charge and it will be same same at Arsenal again this season.

I kind of sense we will see a more attack minded, better balanced Scouse team this season - and Hodgson has a track record of getting the best out of players who ain't quite from the top drawer and L'poo have plenty of those.

So BaaBaa, what about my end of season prediction from a few months back - Zamora for Torres!

How do you come to that conclusion when Liverpool finished second the season before last?

I would describe it as ONE bad season, not "a downward slope for a couple of seasons."

Gerrard's committed himself to the club today and I'm expecting Torres to do the same when he returns from holiday, the only one I expect to leave is Mascherano, unfortunately.

I know, I know and I'm still tring to get my head around it. Cole has said he will tell all in due course. He's mentioned club 'politics' and the club have 'mentioned' they weren't going to pay him what he wanted!

i think a few clubs will have problems with 'internal politics' in the coming season :|
one that instantly springs to mind is man city.
i couldn't believe (read it recently} adebayor is on £190k a week & now yaya toure comes in on £220k   & on top of a bloated £27 million fee :?
something has to give eventually :? :|

I dont think Silva will be on small money either....nor Tevez or the German World Cup defender,Boateng they signed close season.....and Robinho is still on the books !
They are after some Brazilian midfielder who plays for Benfica now for 30m !
They will have a first team squad of about 96 at this rate !
