Dork, speed has never killed anyone, its the stopping that does it. In this case the additional factors of an inexperienced driver in a high powered sports car also came into play.

Driving at 87 miles per hour when road, traffic and weather conditions permit is not a hanging offence.
Have to agree with you there. An experienced driver like yourself (probably, I don't know where you originate from) and others from countries where there is a proper driving test with lessons, know how to control the car at such speeds. The point I am making is this is Thailand.. it really doesn't matter how well you can drive, there is always the risk of some bugger coming screaming out of a soi without looking giving the best driver no time to react.

It was a bad example as, as you have quite rightly pointed out' the kid shouldn't have been driving at those speeds. Just an effort to get back at you for giving me the ol Victor Meldrew pic...
If it's within arms reach, there's nothing to worry about!!

Agreed, to be honest my car won't do 140 ................... ( which is why I want a bike that does :neener: )

Fairplay. :thumb:

It was a tragic incident though, shocking for the parents, and a disgusting example of how the rich literally get away with murder here and that the police are a waste of f%&@#$! space.

One thing you see all the time in Thailand is these rich youngsters from Bangkok constantly weaving around other traffic in performance cars, overtaking at speed on both sides, which is lethal to any poor pedestrians that have to get themselves across a busy road.
I stay up near Hua Hin hospital and several times I've set out across Petchakasem road only to have to jump out of the way of a car trying to overtake on the inside.

The boy attended the funeral. I'd like to think it was a sincere gesture. Pete

I sympathize. For me it's 'Laotian girl cut in half by speeding Corpse'

About the issue. It's a difficult one. How many of us at 19 were racing cars around the country? Unless the young man deliberately targeted her, it was clearly unintentional. To lock someone away for years for a momentary lapse, even if he's a stuck up twit, is not the best punishment IMO. It's revenge.

Prisons are full of people, many of whom (we hope) have already learned their lesson from the incident and have their conscience as a lifetime's punishment (assuming they have one). Doesn't HIS family also feel the stigma? If he shows no remorse, or does something similar again, throw away the key. But for a first offence, a financial settlement to the victim's family is better than destroying his life, and the reputation of his family, who from what I can gather, have done nothing.

If a young man came to me and apologized and I though him sincere, I would forgive him. Revenge may be sweet but it can also consume you.

Edited to seem less heartless.

Steve G - Isn't there a bridge over Petchkasem at the Hospital which is designed to keep pedestrians safely away from vehicles regardless of how well or how badly they are driving?
There is also one at Soi 31 and one at Soi 35.
So the only reason for anyone to have to dodge the traffic around that area is .... what?

The last time I tried to use that pedestrian bridge near the hospital it was unusable due to some structure on it holding up decorations to celebrate something or other.

No it aint.

Salient facts:

1) He was a 19 year old who thanks to his silver spoon life was driving a 15 Million baht car he was incapable of handling safely.

2) Said scumbag thought he was so important he didnt see any issue with driving through a town at 120kmh. Thats what he says he was doing.... thats about 70mph. Ive seen an accident on the A road near the uni I went to where an old woman was hit at that speed and she wasnt bisected so personally I find it hard to believe. 120mph maybe. A porsche does 70mph in second gear.

3) The scumbag then did a runner lke the cowardly callous spoiled little shit he is. Thats hit and run. Given that he was now sitting next to her top half he was fully aware he'd killed someone which compounds the offence. Make that first degree vehicular manslaughter, fleeing the scene and evasion of justice.

4) Said shitbag went into hiding and got daddy warbucks to go down to the police station and lie his ass off, thus perverting the course of justice. Premeditated offence and vicarious liability for the same.

5) And finally...this little wanker shows up at a funeral with the press in tow and snivells his crocodile tears whilst wringing his hands and handing over a pittance blood money pay off to buy his way out of what hes done. All carefully stage managed by daddy warbucks and his leech lawyer from the sidelines. Cynicism, callousness and elitism all in one bag.

In the uK this tosspots biggest worries would start AFTER he got out of jail, where no doubt a crowd of "fans" would be waiting to give him his warm reception care of a crowbar. Bike mags like AWOL in the UK used to publish details of such little darlings just so every biker knows who and where these scum are.

As Pink Floyd said

The evidence before the court is incontravertable, theres no need for the Jury to retire!

Send the little bastard to jail for a 10 stretch, stick daddy in the cell next door for 5 for lying to the police and hiding his son. Sieze their house, sell it and give the dosh to the Lao mother.

Court adjourned

NEXT!
