I don't remember what kind of wood, but it is not fiberboard, nor is it a precious hardwood. It's something in the middle and you can see that it was boards pieced (glued) together if you look close. It was built in a big furniture factory in Bangkok as back when I built my house it was hard to find a good kitchen furnishings company here. We bought the granite ourselves from a place in Petchaburi and had them cut, finish, and install it. We also bought the appliances ourselves in Samut something south of Bangkok at the nearest HomePro at the time.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Stopped by Kvik and The Cabinet asking for offers of two very different designs. One in dark wood veneer that would fit well to a creamy 60x60 tile that would spread in living, dining rooms and kitchen. The other one white high glossy that would fit well to a teak hard wood floor. Both need about a week to prepare the offer. So we'll see later.

Is there any other good tile shop beyond Buntaworn and Grand Tile ?

Duragris can be a result sometimes. On the left past the Dusit before Cha Am.

HomePro usually a reasonable (cheap) choice of 60cm cream tiles with the flat edges, but Boonthavorn would be my choice as they'll usually offer more options and cover the quality range. You're probably aware but the 60cmx60cm with flat edge are heavy as hell, particularly if 'granito' type and they can be a bugger to lay. We've got a few 'airpockets' that make a popping sound when you step on the corner of one. No physical signs in that respect but because of the flat edge and minimal 1mm'ish grout space, if one tile ends up a fraction more 'raised' than the adjoining tile edges then when the light catches it you will notice a dark 'shadowed edge'. Still look better than a million small one's though imo.

This isn't our house but sounds like your first alternative...

This one just needs an 'island' to finish it off nicely imo. I'm not really into having the cooker/hob on the island (hood looks cool though :D ), instead I'd leave the island free for workspace but with a slot cut in the middle of the work surface (maybe 12" x 2") for the purposes of .............. wiping all the vegetable peelings into. Someone will clear themout when they hum loud enough

BTV have an excellent selection and get stock fast. Duragris is way cheaper than Home Pro for the exact same model number. The last lot were 129 Bt per sqm cheaper. 250 Vs 379 and in stock or on very quick order time rather than the 10 days that turns into a month scenario. They are a bitch to lay but I use very good tilers that lay a proper screed rather than a blob of cement under each corner so no hollows. Considering the floors have already been screeded and had self levelling compound poured , well the equivalent that does the job fine, I fail to understand why they insist on using further cement an inch or more thick instead of tile adhesive but the end result is perfect so I I can't complain. A couple of developers I know use Home Mart in Pranburi and given good reports.

I chose the tiles for our new house at Duragris a couple of months ago. The builder is paying for them as they're in with the cost but he asked me to go there as apparently it's a better deal and he's been building houses in the area for many years, so I suppose he would know.
As for kitchens, I'm going to need one soon,( it's not included in the price) and I quite like the one in SJ's post on the last page, the one in light wood, not the purple one.

"duragris" in Cha am or Home Mart Pranburi is/was the same shop. It used to be the only place most developers used for many supplies including tiles up until a few years ago.
I have had a few problems with tiles bought there being different shades although I insisted they all come from the same lot. Beware also that this shop also buys a lot of second quality tiles. Small differences in size and thickness along with obvious cosmetic flaws are the usual reason the tiles are not first quality.
Also I can from experience state although it says grade A on the box it is not always true
I have also bought direct from the manufacturer- try telephoning them if you are buying a lot. The contact details are usually on the box or Google.

Poosmate is quite correct that they do have some real cheapies and "end of the line" stuff but they can also, and do, supply quality stuff at good prices. I have had the shade issue once though and it was a real pain. Eventually the manufacturer or main dealer managed to find some somewhere so all was good :D

Indeed the kitchen in SJ's picture looks very nice. We just don't have that much space. Basically one wall of 3.20 m and one island of 1.60 m in front of that.

Chosing the tiles is a real pain ...

To give you an idea of prices Steve, this one is approx. 3.2m x 1.2m with a 1.8m bar and with granite top, sink/tap and fit only equipment (ie: customers supplies oven, hob, fan, fridge), we would charge around 130-140,000 Baht. You could save around 15% by going direct to the local tradesmen but take your chances with guarantees and returning to correct any problems, whereas we always make sure things are put right even if we had to pay them out of our mark-up. But we've worked with them six years now and never had an issue in nearly fifty kitchens and twice as many bathrooms.

We committed with admin last night to take an ad page out for kitchens and cabinets so hopefully will get plenty of pics up in a week or so of different style door panels, colour shades etc, and will do a few introductory offers for board members of say 120k for the one mentioned here.

Thank you for that SJ, I'll certainly keep it in mind when the house is finished.

I noticed that Index sometimes sell off their display kitchens at 70% off. A bit restricted I know, but may be lucky and find something that's a good match.

You really need to be careful about the quality of the cabinet wood, and how it's been treated for termites. Everyone I know who has had termite problems over here where I am, they first attacked the wood baseboards along floor/wall on the ground floor, and second the kitchen cabinets. With the cabinets the point of entry is near the fastener holes in the wall. The most recent event the occupant heard a large crash in the kitchen and found that the entire cabinet had fallen off the wall, with termite damage right where the fasteners were. Pete

Bit of an old discussion I know, anyone had any experience with using Kvik for a fitted kitchen ?
