Two thumbs up for Leo's driver and car. My bus arrived 4:10am, 50min early in Bangkok.
Mr. Ling was only minutes away.
Driving his fully loaded newer Toyota Camry. Drove in a very safe manner. Would stop anywhere you wanted. My better half and I shared the back seat with plenty of room to spare.
Large trunk fit my oversized hard golf club case and 1 large and small suitcase.
Anybody needing a private car for a good price...call Mr. Ling.
Ed, I´m now back in DK after a long nights travel. Glad to hear that everything was ok, but wish I was back in HH again, very bad weather here, but ok it´s only for two weeks.
Sounds like Mr Ling got good endorsements from you guys. I'm dropping by Hua Hin later this month. Can you please pass me his contact number as well? (ivantkl@yahoo "dot" com)

Also, the view from the trains are pretty good and I always fondly remember staring out the train windows on my many train travels around LOS at the areas it went through, just a forgotten public service crying out for funding with no intention of modernising.
There are the odd train accidents still but I'd choose it over a loony minivan driver any day (jump off and on points possible to my plan), unless you are in a proper rush.
Cheers.
I usually use the train when my final destination is Bangkok. I just wish they'd add a couple more air con second class trains. The 400pm departure from Hua Hin is okay, but there is nothing midday or afternoon departing from Bangkok.
I tried 2nd class fan car twice, and it was just a bit too uncomfortable. One time it roared (not!) through an area where they had just finished burning the sugar cane fields, and the smoke smell was quite intense.
Two questions: A) How much is the train? What time does the ride from HH to BKK take?

There are afternoon trains from Bkk to HH. One at about 13.30, (which I think is the Yala sleeper) then one about 16.30 ish which gets in to HH about quarter to ten - given a back wind! I think there's also one from Bkk about midday.
