Re: Golf Memberships

Icebear, I have confirmed that the transfer will take place in Bangkok. I am having the documents couriered to India and I will sign and return. They The owner and the agency will do the transfer once returned, in BKK. It cost me another 5000 Baht but is worth not flying to BKK from India just to do the transfer. Even if I came, I would not be able to play golf for 3-4 weeks until the cards are printed and I pay my annual membership. So my total cost including transfer fee is 335,000 Baht. (Plus annual dues)

Regarding distance, I drove and timed travel from Khao Takiab to each golf course. Springfield was just 5 minutes more than BM, Majestic, Lake View and even Banyon. I can live with that. I went up 112 to the main road. I will use the driving range on the way to Royal Thai Army Sea Pines GC. It is less than 10 minutes, covered and cheap.

Do you know anything about the Gym at Springfield? Does it have one?

Thanks again.

Hi SF: sorry no gym, but other rather very expensive facilities such as the Spa, Restaurants, etc.
Good Luck with the transfer.
Maybe one day we'll see each other there....

Sunandfun - there is a gym at Springfield. It is joined on to the member's lounge. It isn't very big but has running machines, ski machine, free weights and a couple of those big balls. The member's lounge has 2 free computers, free coffee and magazines. It is a very nice little area and Tukta can be found there, who is the membership girl. She is very helpful and nice if you have any questions. You will enjoy being a member there,

JW, I will definitely come by and see you. I went by Bernie's a few times and only saw a few "lonely girls." Never saw anyone to have a chat with. I have a valid handicap and will bring the certificate with me when I come. I believe you play pretty regularly don't you? I look forward to meeting a lot of fellow golfers so I can play regularly. My wife is a non-golfer so I hope to meet some friends to spend some after golf "social time" with also. She tolerates my golf quite graciously. Some one told me that there is more to life than golf. I am still checking on that. Will get back to you. haha

Mrock, Glad you're loving your place at BM. It is truly a beautiful golf course and the villas are nice also. We looked at condos there too. After talking to a lot of friends who have houses or condos there (mostly friends from the Asian Tour) they said that if they were to do it again, they would live in Hua Hin and travel out to play golf. Seems all of their friends want to meet at night in the city and they hate to go in, party late and then have the drive back. Sort of made sense and we heeded the advise. Will let you know how it works out driving 35 minutes one way each day to play golf. Always seemed that I would like to live on a golf course though. One day I may find a golf course in the city and have it both ways. Happy Golfing.

Tell me about it!! But in all honesty, the current management team are a huge improvement on what went before and things do seem to be improving, albeit slowly.

I understand that unless you have purchased one of the Bht50 million homes the golf membership cost is bht1 million per person ( but only for smaller homes and condos owners)

It is a nice course and perfectly maintained but - the best in Thailand ? - I don't think so and too many blind shots for my liking.

Very True, but do they have membership?

Thai Army Sports Club Sea Pines Golf Course does have a membership and is very close by. 30,000 Baht per year and you still have to pay 500 Baht per round plus caddie. No Driving Range as of now. I may still use this if I start playing daily. But would have to play 30 rounds a year there, to pay off. :?

I don't need to/want to buy a house or Condo to have a golf membership, and quite frankly, as nice a course as Black Mountain is...I don't want to live all the way out there anyway.

Contated all the clubs via email re Membership deals, and got nada back from them.....only one to reply was Banyan, and it was quick!

Lack of a reply from the other clubs does not fill one with confidence of handing money over!

Club memberships should mature, and you should feel like you are part of something as a Club Member...not just a number....

That "Member" feeling is lacking in a lot of clubs I have visited

The Member feeling is totally lacking, you are just a number paying a lot less than the walk-in green fee, the club membership as you may know it does not exist, and as for a club medal or a club handicap :cuss:
