Well, I've managed without one for my whole life and never resorted to buying pre-sliced.

Give me a cheese wire anytime.

Much better and easier than a knife - especially for soft cheeses - and it will do your slices for you rather than having to resort to pre sliced.

For getting thin slices of cheese for cooking or whatever, these cheese slicer things that you drag over the cheese are good:

I like cheese but as I try to eat a reasonably healthy diet, I'll use thin slices of something stronger like an aged Dutch cheese. (That's what is readily available where I am working in Luxembourg.)

Remember those from my time in Germany - very useful! But never see them here. Has anyone else spotted them?

I've just had a look at the one I have in my apartment here and it came from Ikea but I'm not suggesting that you drive 230 km to Bangkok on the off chance that they have a cheese slicer!

Funny short story. When my daughter was still crawling she would crawl over to the sofa where I sat watching TV and snacking on blue cheese with smoked salmon and/or German smoked sardines in olive oil. She attacked it all and to this day at the ripe age of 7 is still a lover of blue cheese, smoked salmon and smoked German sardines in olive oil. Can't get her to eat non-smoked sardines though. I personally didn't touch blue cheese or sardines until I was in my 20s. Goes to show that early habits hang on forever I guess. Pete

Thanks a lot lads - Obviously will try Makro Pran first but, otherwise, we were planning to go take a look at Ikea some time in the near future anyway. :thumb:

Ah, that is north, never mind!

Right, lets put the Waitrose thing to bed, as I said they are mainly southern based, just check their branch finder, with a few t'up north where the money is. I have three near to me, in Newbury, Marlebrough and Wantage and Mags, you must know their sliced cheese isn't just for export?

When I was a kid, I worked in an old style grocers, a dying breed at the time, even got to ride the delivery bike, with the big frame on the front. But my favourite job was slicing and then wrapping cheese when I was finally allowed to serve, don't ask me why? :? A knife just can't do it in the same way - I must get a cheese wire now! Glad to see others agree!

I've got 2 Aldis, M&S, a Tesco and a Morrisons in 5 mins drive.

I have never ever seen a Lidl though, are they a southern thing?
