Reading more, perhaps Le Pen. I wouldn't put it past them either. Sore losers.

Whoever it is, it's bonkers - they should find a way to keep politics out of sport.

Oh good God, there's no shortage of Politics and Scandals already - take your pick: -

The cost of the games - Buildings (temporary or otherwise), Threats of Terrorism & added Security (some 45K officers and years of planning - and look at today's attacks on the Rail System), Tourism (YES! Actually mentioned as a real issue due to afore mentioned security), Displacement of locals (many simply too pissed off to remain in the city) and of course the Environmental issues. France proclaim these games as being the "Greenest Ever".... But hell, 10K athletes and the multi-millions of spectators that will be present during the entire games...

Of course we then have: -

GB's Charlotte Dujardin binned for whipping a horse in animal abuse scandal, Chinese Doping, A convicted Child Rapist (Dutch Volleyball), Canadian Women's Football coach sent home amidst spying claims.. Oh, there are many the majority covered here https://www.theguardian.com/uk/sport'

I would have thought the transport system would have been considered in all security planning. It appears transport has been targeted in previous protests by French 'ultra-left radicals' - whatever that means. Some had threatened disruption of the Olympics and it appears they were true to their word! A security faux pas.

Anywho - the Final Day of the Rugby 7's is tomorrow (Saturday), and the 7's has been great quit frankly - certainly worth the watch (see the "Rugby" Thread for more details)

But what a massive area to police - nigh on impossible I'd imagine.

It is, but should also have been expected.

It makes me wonder these days how long these "Global Events" can continue... Incredible costs, Security/Threats of Terrorism - what really is the point?

I would assume that anyone regarded as a potential threat internally would have been monitored for some time before the games started. In the UK, there might be various agencies involved led or coordinated by MI5, I assume. I guess it takes various forms, unusual behaviours, meeting with other known 'radicals', physical monitoring, listening in to meetings, electronic communications etc.

From the information I have seen, one such group seeking to sabotage were caught in the act, but I don't know if they were caught etc. The actions are also being described as well thought out and planned, so I assume no such monitoring on such radicals took place. As they have been able to go out mob handed to do the dirty deed.

It's incredibly difficult security-wise and it really does make me go back to earlier comments on how long "Global Events" such as the Olympics, World Cups can continue. Conflicts/Wars, Terrorist Threats, Racism, Politics and well, pure hatred - how on earth can things continue as they do? Is it for money, influence on the Global Stage...

As for the hatred and racism, look no further that the football with Argentina - certainly no love lost and it went on to the Rugby 7's - this from https://www.theguardian.com/sport/artic ... final-spot

"There were 80,000 French fans in the Stade de France, and they made a racket that carried out of the ground and right around the city.

The poor old Argentinians were on the hook for the racist chants their football team aimed at the French players during the recent Copa América, and they were booed and hooted and jeered every time they touched the ball. Relations between the two countries have become so strained that Argentina’s president, Javier Milei, has arranged to meet Emmanuel Macron in Paris this weekend in an effort to lessen the tensions between them."

Sad times indeed.... :(
