Hope that had cleared this up for you all
I thought we'd already established that.

It seems to have been confirmed that the Hua Hin Jazz Festival 2008 will be held on the weekend of 14th/15th June.
Whether it is to be a two-day or a three-day event has yet to be announced.
It is also assumed (and hoped) that Kenny Garrett will be appearing.
Who else is on the bill?
The list of artists given on the homepage of this HHAD website is EXACTLY the same as the 2006 line-up.
Does this mean that the organisers have secured exactly the same artists that appeared in 2006?
Or does it mean that the line-up is still 'under negotiation' and some-one has just 'cut and pasted' the 2006 promotional material?

I do not live in Hua Hin and would like to know whether to make the trip this year or not.

HHAD does not get any info whatsoever from the organisers and promoters despite contacting them several times requesting it.

Most of the info here comes directly from the TAT website and stuff that has been translated from Thai sites.

They seem to know more about it than we do:
http://www.huahin4u.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=31

Every year we have this problem with lack of info, the press release last year was held about 9 days before the event - until then everyone was guessing.

Annoying isnt it? :cuss: :banghead:

I'll say!! Especially for those of us coming from Bangkok or even further afield.

But this just appeared today on The Heineken Thai site.

The festival will be the 13th and 14th and they list the following performers.

Hun Hin Jazz Festival 2008 ่ 13-14 มิถุนายนนี้ครับ

Zao-Zadung

Mansri Band featuring Kob Songsit

T-Bone

The Mike Stern’s Band
Featuring Dave Weckl and Chris Mihn Doky

Kenny Garrett Quintet

Denny & Friends featuring Rudklao Amaraditra & Jirasak Panpoom

“The Jazz Dojo” featuring “Lookpud”

Young Blood Band with Nu Vudthivichai

Hun Hin Music All-Stars

It'll be worth the hassle if both Garrett and Stern come!

I am now in contact with the event organisers, and will post here as soon as I have confirmed details, not only of the artists but also dates and times etc. I suspect that the Kenny Garrett listing is the Prime Nature concert, although Heineken have already told me that they are not sponsoring that event, so maybe he is playing the festival as well - his own website certainly suggests that. This may be one of the reasons they have been holding back on revealing the line up, so that the Prime Nature concert can sell some tickets! I also suspect that the reason the originally posted dates were changed was that neither Garrett nor Stern and Weckl would have been available on the previous weekend due to other commitments. (see my earlier posting on this). Watch this space!

Top stuff, keep it coming, I checked heinekenthai.com earlier so they must have just put that up.

Nothing like a good bit of forward notice and planning ... and this was nothing like ...

The organisers are CM Event and True Music, while the sponsors include True music, LG, Heineken, Nation Group, FM 89 Banana FM., 2Magazine, Wave88, Yamaha music and more. Some of the sponsors will have special stands and/or areas on site, particularly the True group, who will have related jazz content available for free download such as ringtones, VDO clips, on-line chat, etc. True Move customers can also win prizes by sending SMS. True Music Community on the beach area will be specially designed for True customers to enjoy food, snack and beverage. True Visions will be broadcasting the event live on their satellite/cable network.
There is a website, http://www.huahinjazzfest.com/ to get a bit more detail. According to the map in it, there will only be one stage on the beach, by the Sofitel, and according to the press release
The venue of Hua Hin beach is three times increased with number of activities for jazz lovers. Facilities and security system is well prepared for visitors’ convenience. The event is expected to draw more than 70,000 visitors during 2-days event. Mr. Sermkhun Khunawong, CEO of CM Organizer Plc. on behalf of CM Event said that the Hua Hin Jazz Festival is strongly supported by Prachuabkirikhan’s governor, Mr. Prasong Pitoonkitja, for many consecutive years. This year the event has become even larger than previous years. To mark Hua Hin as a complete jazz town, there will be both ‘Jazz on the Beach’ and ‘Jazz in the Town’ concert venues, for visitors’ choice of entertaining.
The ‘Jazz on the Beach’ event is the original music event being held at Hua Hin in which managed by CM Event for many consecutive years. Hua Hin jazz on beach has become event of the year and been put in visitor’s travelling calendar. There were more than 65,000 visitors – Thais and foreigners - attend the event last year. This year, there will be full-function of facilities, security control, and traffic management operated for the highest visitors’ convenience.
I have to say I think their figures are a bit out and that there were closer to 100,000 last year over the 2 days, and likely to be at least that this year. The map also shows only 5 dedicated parking areas for the event, one of which is Market Village, one is the Sofitel and another is the Municipality offices by the main crossroads in the centre of town. The others are the school next to Market Village, and either the temple (Wat Hua Hin) or the school next to it, but it is not clear on the map.
The mention of 'Jazz In The Town' above is interesting, but it is only mentioned once in the Press release and there is nothing else to indicate what this means or if there is set venues for it; hopefully it will be like the very first one, where there were little stages all over the place as well as the main beach one, but I doubt it.
Finally the Kenny Garrett concert at Prime Nature Villa is included in the press release under the umbrella of the Jazz Festival, but still as a distinct separate event - for a fan of the man it would certainly be a more comfortable and intimate concert than the free beach show, but at quite a price.
I have to say that the headline acts are impressive, and have gone some way to alleviate my fears that the event was going to collapse after the poor line up last year; now all the organisers have to do is promote it better and earlier and make the access and parking arrangements better!

Thanks for the info wanderlust.

Can anybody give me an idea of what I should expect in terms of traffic if coming from Bangkok. Would it be possible to leave BKK say midday or early afternoon on Friday and make it there in reasonable time? Or is that a ridiculous question given the huge numbers mentioned above? Any advice from seasoned veterans is welcome!

A little more info trickling out from the organisers and sponsors has found itself onto the Hua Hin Thai forum. A quick glance tells me that there will also be stages at the Red Cross park (where Pone is) and the railway station with that bit of road being shut off from the 15th to the 21st.

Bands playing at these two extra stages are:
20th June
Arnon Jazz Band, C U Band, The Infinity, อ.เทวัญ ทรัพย์แสนยากร, ป้อม ออโต้บานท์ Feat. ลุลา, Bangkok Connection Feat. Captain Loma

21st June
Sanpond, Bangkok Rise, JRP Big Band, Contempostic, Bee Peerapat (Cresendo), อ. โปรด ธนภัทร Feat. จิระพันธ์, ETC

So the main beach only event is on the 13th and 14th and from Sunday throughout the week will be these extra two stages.

As usual all of this stuff comes way too late and only in Thai.
