When you install FF it gives you the option of importing all of your IE stuff. Alternatively go to Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import and backup > Import HTML > then select import from IE.

Yes, they will remain in IE. To stop the script issue errors make sure javascript is enabled. Tools > Options > Content > Enable JS and Java.

I have not had a good experience with FIREFOX and have tried it twice. I followed the downloading procedure and all was confimed OK, except that it would not take on my HP Web Printer and a Googloe Tool Bar.

For so many web pages it came up with ' Address not Found ' usually giving the reason that ' Your connection to this site is not encrypted'

So its back to IE 8 !!

PET,
Did you try reinstalling those (Google Tool Bar and HP Web Printer) as I suggested? And did you try buksi's suggestions regarding Java? It would be helpful to know in case others have the same or similar issues.

All was Ok with Java so I left well alone.

Getting onto the web, particularly with my home page (AOL) caused loads of problems with my connection to the site not being encrypted (whatever that means) Many other web pages were also stated ' Address not Found'

The help menu for Internet Explorer 8 persons led me into transferring Favourites and some other files but when I clicked to go ahead nothing happened ( this was with both downloads)
I tried the suggested manual method and about 5% went through.

I am sure it is mostly my fault but it seems to me that such downloads should lead one along so that all is well - it seems to assume that everyone is very computer literate.

With all the above I did not feel like uninstalling my HP software etc.

I am happy to give it another go, because initially it did seem much faster, but the problems came when I got into transferring items from IE,

Firefox / Internet Explorer 8

Post by PET »

Since composing the above I took the initiative to download again.

The download was much faster and the box regarding transferring Favourites etc came up for the first time. I clicked it and all went well.

The Add Ons of Google Toolbar and HP Smart Web Printing were refused and said to be not compatible and in the case of Google the security level was said to be bad

The speed is very much improved.

I went into the Control Panel ( Add/Remove Programs) and noticed that for the Google Tool Bar it said for Internet Explorer only, so I presume this can be left.

I tried my 3 in 1 HP printer with Firefox and all went well printing a web page.

I am very pleased with the final result and cannot explain why the first downloads did not function correctly although claiming to have been done successfully.

My final question about HP which I recall having been mentioned before.

My program sais I have the following installed :-

HP Cuctomer Participation Program
HP Deskjet F4200 Driver software
HP Imaging Device Functions
HP Photosmart Essential
HP Smart Web Printing
HP Update

I feel I do not need all these as I just use HP for printing, copying and scanning, and I feel they slow may computer Start

Thanks for all your help and I hope my experience helps others.

Can someone give some input on the following,

My computer has got 'Cyberlink Power DVD' but have just got a thumb drive off someone with a movie on it but i reckon it won't play, as it's the wrong file, and the person said "Download Gom.player" and all will be well,. plays anything.

My question is, as I'm not sure and don't usually listen to Tom, Dick and Harry, so I thought asking a neutral entity like everyone on here what the score is with this?

There a lot of players out there. Best advice I can give is try a few and see which one best suits you.

I use 'Tiger player' and/or 'Div x' player. Both are free downloads and work well with anything I throw at them.

The worst on I have come across is 'Windows media player 11' This only plays what it wants, has many issues with codecs and is basically a big pile of poo...

Have you tried it using IE? I know you don't like dirtying your keyboard with IE, but it will determine whether its a firefox problem or not.

Sorry to sound naive but could someone enlighten me on the following,

I have 'Adobe Reader 9' version 10.1..... :blabla: and I downloaded the 'updater' from the Adobe wedsite.

It' weird, every time I check or look for "updates", which is very often, it comes up with updates almost all the time, sometimes every day. The usual "minimize to try" stuff that carries on for hours sometimes and I hardly ever notice the difference when I'm using my computer.

I have 'Reader 9', 'Adode Acrobat 8 Professional', 'Adode Media Player', 'Adobe Illustrator', 'Photoshop' aswell but that never wants to update because it's a "copy" version.

The question is, "Is this normal?" or an I missing something? What's the deal with Adobe on this one. I wonder if I'm wasting my time sometimes as I see little difference, most of the time. I know it's (Adobe) mostly free software but can someone "lay it down" regarding this area as it might also be helpful to others that are surfing for info, not everyone is a digital genius.

I got rid of Adobe PDF reader a while back because it was so intrusive and had a big footprint. I found an excellent free alternative called PDF XChange viewer. It works great.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
