Wayne Rooney wants to leave Man Utd - Sir Alex Ferguson

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that striker Wayne Rooney wants to leave Manchester United.

The Old Trafford boss admitted he was "shocked" and "disappointed" to hear the news but said he had not fallen out with the England international.

"We are as bemused as anyone can be, we can't quite understand why he would want to leave," said Ferguson.

Ferguson said the "door is still open" for Rooney, 24, to remain at the club he joined from Everton in 2004.

Rooney's contract with the Premier League giants is due to end at the end of the 2011/12 season.

Manchester United are due to face Bursaspor in the Champions League on Wednesday but Rooney will not be involved after being stretchered off at the end of training on Tuesday.

Rooney's future has been the subject of intense speculation over the last few days following reports that the England striker was not prepared to sign a new contract.

In an interview with MUTV filmed before he spoke to the media, Ferguson said Manchester United chief executive David Gill had told him about Rooney's decision not to sign a new deal back in the summer.

"I was in the office on 14 August and David phoned me to say he (Rooney) wasn't signing a contract," said Ferguson.

"I was dumbfounded. Only months before he was saying he was at the greatest club in the world.

"I asked to have a meeting with the boy. He reiterated what his agent said, that he wanted to go."

There's only really Chelsea, Real and City.
I've got a feeling he's going to end up at City, who'd have thought it?

Nah, he'll want out of such a small place as Manchester. Chelsea or Real.

Be interesting to see how the Manure fans react?

He's from the northwest though, his family are here, his missus sister is very ill, City could blow everyone out of the water and he wouldn't even have to move house.

I've already had a little peek on Redcafe, their main forum.

"Fat Scouse Bastard" "Overrated Anyway" "In Fergie we trust" "He's on the slide" and the classic "Good, we can use the money to rebuild"

How many times do we see young sports superstars like this coming unraveled? Too young, too much money, too much in the media spotlight. Look at Tiger Woods as another example out of dozens in pro sports worldwide. The downward spiral all seems to start with the babes and a runaway ego. Pete

I think Rooney will end up at Citeh....they are the only club that can match his wage demands.
United were willing to offer him 160k per week but he wants 200k plus !
He never showed any loyalty to Everton so why should he do so to United ?
If it would have happened last season, when he was in the form of his life,it would have been a disaster for United but this season he has been atrocious and not worth his place in the team.
That said,I think that the current squad will struggle to get a Champions League place without him.
But,other than last years golden season for him,you look at Rooneys contribution to United. The previous two seasons he was very much in Ronaldo's shadow and ofter ran around like a headless chicken.....arguably,Tevez was a more effective player.
But who will Sir Alex sign to replace him ? I'd like to see Torres because, like Rooney, you dont just lose your ability overnight. At Liverpool he gets little or no service and is their only striker. At United he wouldnt have to shoulder the workload alone and could be rested when appropriate.
But will it happen ?......cant see it really.
One thing is for certain....Torres wont want to contemplate life in the Championship will he ! 8)

pretty difficult player to replace.
last season was a golden one in terms of goal scoring, but his contribution to the team over the time he's been there has been immense.
his workrate & all round game allowed players like ronaldo & co to shine :|

he's a top class player & his form at present is just a blip.

the money side of things has definately got something to do with it.
perhaps seeing pretty average players just down the road on close to & over £200k a week  :?
the sooner they bring in these new fair play rules, the better.
citeh nor chelsk can afford him, . . . . . roman & the sheik can though

Definitely, I don't even see how City could could cover their wage bill when the new rules come in.

I'm sure you would but what could United offer for him?
He'd cost a bit more than a bag of Jellybeans and a packet of Monster Munch. :P

Take my word for it, Rooney is on his way to Liverpool. I know because I heard Roy Hodgson saying "Looks like Wayne's coming".
I didn't hear any more because it started pissing down and I had to run for cover.

That was doing the rounds on redandwhitekop forum last night.

Everton get 25% of any profit by the way, I think the Glazers get 50%.

Rooney's a 24 carat plonker. If he does piss off from united I feel that he will get more stick than any other player before (Including Sol Cambell :D ) and that his greed for money will be his downfall.

Well, I'd say he's definitely off!

Glazers won't like what he has to say.
