On April 9, doctors concluded he died of Covid-19 and other complications.
The outbreak of the coronavirus has spread to 62 provinces across the country.

Global Covid-19 cases soared by 785,896 to 135.29 million. The worldwide death toll rose by 13,268 to 2.92.million.
The US had the most cases, at 1.8 million, up 85,368. Brazil came second with 13.37 million, up 89,090. India was third with 13.2 million, up 144,829. Thailand ranked 113th.

Infected politicians 'should face probe'
A corruption watchdog has called on state agencies to investigate politicians who became infected with Covid-19 after attending bars in the Thong Lor area which is the epicentre of the new surge of infections.
Mana Nimitmongkol, secretary-general of the Anti-Corruption Organisation of Thailand (ACT), wrote on Facebook on Saturday that corruption and law-breaking were associated with the latest wave of Covid-19 linked to pubs in Thong Lor in Bangkok. "This was also the case with the previous round of infections linked with illegal gambling dens and illegal migrants,'' he said.
In particular, the public were angry about the new infection cluster linked with Thong Lor night entertainment venues because some cabinet ministers were accused of visiting those pricey bars where they contracted the disease as they failed to follow disease control protocol, Mr Mana posted. "In this latest outbreak, those ministers behaved improperly, and this reflected a chronic problem regarding politicians' ethical behaviour,'' Mr Mana said.
He urged the government to take legal action against pub owners, as well as the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), police and public health officials for negligence in enforcing the law.

There is a factor that's difficult to arrive at, and that is total new cases in the population as a multiple of the published case count. Every country has that dilemma, and I don't know if any statistician has taken a stab at it.
With the above published number of 967 new cases on the day, I could easily imagine reality being 9,670.

A more useful statistic would be x number of new patients from y tested, at least that would give some perspective - at the moment we don’t know if it’s 10,000 or 100,000 being tested?

Grim warning amid surge
More than 28,000 people could be infected by Covid-19 per day over the next month if no disease control measures are put in place during the current spike, which is thought to be more severe than the previous two rounds, a senior public health official warned on Sunday.
The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported 967 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, the most ever diagnosed in 24 hours in the kingdom.
Sopon Iamsirithaworn, the deputy director-general of the Department of Disease Control (DDC), said its epidemiology division in collaboration with the International Health Policy Program had come up with a mathematical model to predict the number of people who could become infected per day if safety measures were not observed. In a worst-case scenario with no disease control measures in place, 28,678 people could be infected per day, he said.
However, the average number of daily cases under this scenario would be 9,140, Dr Sopon added, while noting the lowest number could be 1,308 if people do not comply with safety measures.
Govt solution: give em all 9 days holiday and encourage travel and spreading it around

Thailand adds 985 Covid cases Monday, new record
https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... new-record
The government reported 985 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, a new daily record since the pandemic began, bringing the accumulated total to 33,610.
All but five of the new infections were transmitted inside Thailand.
No additional deaths were reported, leaving the toll at 97.
Full story below
The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said Chiang Mai led new cases with 246 transmissions, followed by Bangkok (137) and Chon Buri (92). The Chiang Mai figures included a big jump reported by the province on Sunday afternoon.
The national CCSA report showed Chiang Mai with 57 more cases than on Sunday morning, and Bangkok with 99 fewer.
Department of Disease Control director-general Opas Karnkawinpong said the figures after the Songkran holiday will define the direction of the Thailand’s third wave of Covid-19.
"The trend is still upward. We have to look at the figures after Songkran," Dr Opas said.
He said most new cases were still linked to nightspots and he warned that the ongoing university summer break could make new cases jump if students lower their guard in personal activities and extracurricular programmes such as summer camps in remote areas.
The five imported cases logged on Monday comprised two from Russia, two from Germany and one from Sweden.

Officials say no plan to change mandatory hospitalisation for Covid patients
https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/offi ... d-patients
Health officials insist that, despite rising infection rates, there is no plan to allow people who test positive for Covid-19 to self-isolate at home. Currently, everyone found to be infected is admitted for hospital treatment, even if asymptomatic.
Opas Karnkawinpong from the Department of Disease Control says the policy limits the number of patients who go on to transmit the virus to friends or family, thereby controlling the spread more effectively. Addressing a press conference yesterday, Opas insists there are no plans to allow patients to self-isolate at home, despite reports that many hospitals have run out of beds.
According to a report in The Pattaya News, Opas says field hospitals are being created in many areas and the government is implementing a “hospitel” plan, whereby hotels would be used to house asymptomatic patients and those with very mild symptoms. It’s understood that many of these facilities already serve as alternative state quarantine or local state quarantine hotels for those returning from overseas.
Meanwhile, Opas states that all Thais and migrant workers can get a free Covid-19 test, adding that 3 billion baht has been set aside for this. However, foreign nationals will have to pay to be tested, unless they are identified through the contact-tracing procedure, whereby health officials believe they may have been exposed to the virus.
According to the Pattaya News, some Thai media outlets are reporting that people are hesitant about coming forward for testing due to having to be hospitalised if they test positive. It’s understood many foreign nationals in particular are reluctant, as they would be required to pay for their hospital stay.

They complain that hospitals are running out of beds. They're quick to accuse foreigners of spreading the virus but they will impose heavy charges on foreigners being tested and mandatorily hospitalised!!
They really don't have a clue do they?

How many Foreigners should be getting tested, but won't because of their policies?
Incidentally, I saw a long list of hospitals offering free testing yesterday, which included Hua Hin Hospital and Prachuap Hospital. It didn't say if it was free for just Thais or everybody.

Thailand logs 965 new Covid cases Tuesday
https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... es-tuesday
The government on Tuesday recorded 965 new cases of the novel coronavirus -- all but nine of them locally transmitted -- bringing the accumulated total since the start of the pandemic to 34,575.
No new deaths were reported, leaving the toll at 97.
It was the third straight day with more than 900 new cases in Thailand, although Tuesday's number was marginally lower than the previous two days.

Chiang Mai led new infections nationwide with 251 cases, followed by Bangkok (194), Chon Buri (97) and Prachuap Khiri Khan (73), according to Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) figures.
"Provinces under close watch are Chiang Mai and Bangkok," Department of Disease Control director-general Opas Karnkawinpong said. Most new cases were linked to nightlife clusters around the country, he added.
The figures in Prachuap Khiri Khan will jump on Wednesday as the provincial public health office registered 141 additional cases, two of them foreigners, on Tuesday. The latest tally in Prachuap Khiri Khan will be included in the CCSA’s Wednesday report.
Most of the new patients appeared to have contracted the virus in Maya Exclusive Club in Hua Hin district, the Prachuap office said.
A female employee of Krystal Club in Bangkok’s Thong Lor area – infected but asymptomatic – attended a concert at the Hua Hin club on March 30 and appears to have sparked an outbreak throughout he province.
The five imported cases logged on Tuesday comprised five from Malaysia and one each from Switzerland, Pakistan, India and Germany, the CCSA said.
