A layman might be excused for thinking “if China has nothing to hide then let them come and look and clear our name”, or conversely “we’re not going to cooperate in case they find out what we’ve been up to”?

NB: The following has been published in the Royal Gazette to take effect from tomorrow. However, some Prachuap Khiri Khan restrictions are more severe, so we have to wait for our own Governor's letter to see if he agrees, or the harsher restrictions remain.

As of Sunday, 1,228 (-6) patients are in critical condition, with 408 (-7) of them relying on ventilator. About 1.17 percent of the population is fully vaccinated, with 1,462,762 (+17,334) people received the first dose, while 779,388 (+6,396) received the second dose.

24 new Covid deaths, 2,302 new cases Sunday

Twenty-four Covid-19 deaths and 2,302 new cases were reported on Sunday, bringing the accumulated totals to 589 fatalities and 101,447 cases.

A total of 2,136 people were recorded as recovered over the 24-hour period, leaving 35,055 under treatment at hospitals.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said on Sunday Bangkok led fatalities with eight deaths, while Chon Buri, Pathum Thani and Kanchanaburi logged two deaths each.

One fatality was recorded in each of 10 provinces — Chiang Mai, Si Sa Ket, Ratchaburi, Samut Prakan, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Sawan, Phichit, Rayong, Nakhon Nayok and Ayutthaya.

The capital led the number of new infections with 1,218 cases, while the five provinces next door bagged 616 combined cases.

Bangkok and its five surrounding provinces of Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon Nakhon Pathom and Nonthaburi accounted for half of the new infections.

CCSA assistant spokeswoman Apisamai Srirangson said concerns centred on new clusters in camps for construction workers in Bangkok. At one site in Lak Si district, 86% of the 559 labourers were diagnosed with Covid-19, she said.

"The Lak Si camp was shut down and movement in and out [of the area] was banned," Dr Apisamai said.

There are 393 camps holding 60,000 construction workers, both Thais and foreigners, across the capital.

The 23 imported cases logged on Sunday were dominated by 14 Thais who returned from Cambodia through immigration checkpoints in Aranyaprathet district of Sa Kaeo province. Another three re-entered the country from Malaysia through the Sadao checkpoint in Songkhla.

The other imported cases, both Thais and other nationalities, comprised one each from Sweden, the United Kingdom, Austria, Germany, the Philippines and Myanmar.

Edit: Singapore had the exact same problem that overwhelmed the city about a year ago. It took them a long time to control things, and much of that control was to simply lock the workers in their dormitories until the threat was gone.

These 'tourism' proposals for Phuket followed by a similar proposal for HH can only work if they form a gigantic 'bubble'. That would mean nobody in or out including tourists. Otherwise, there will be an influx of people attracted by the 'resident' tourists. These people would probably not be vaccinated and therefore the whole plan would be compromised and fail.

Second to that, are tourists going to be attracted to having a holiday in a 'bubble'. I don't think so! And what about any restrictions to returning to their own country having been to Thailand?

Thailand records another highest-ever single-day spike on Monday with 9,635 cases, bringing the total tally to 111,082. Today's new cases include 6,853 cases reported in prisons and 2,782 reported elsewhere in Thailand over the past 24 hours.

Without wanting to induce panic or heart attacks amongst the local farang population, I'll repeat something I said a year ago.

These are the recorded figures, and this is Thailand. Are these figures accurate or have they been 'adjusted' downwards? Even if they are the unadulterated truth, this is the number of recorded cases: how many unrecorded cases are there?

Forum members who live in Thailand are suitably sceptical and cynical in most regards when it comes to government statements, yet appear to be taking these figures as gospel.

What else can we do - we have no way of knowing how accurate any figures are so can only react to what is published - the latest figures give sufficient reason to be cautious.

I've said that before as well. I used a figure of x 10 to account for the asymptomatic cases that could be spreaders but are never accounted for.
