30 Covid fatalities, 2,713 new cases Monday

Thailand on Monday reported 30 new Covid-19 fatalities and another 2,713 cases, bringing the accumulated toll to 806 deaths and the number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 132,213.
The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said of the new cases, 2,507 were in the general population and 206 in prisons.
Eleven fatalities were recorded in Bangkok, three in Nakhon Ratchasima and another three in Ratchaburi, according to the centre. Samut Sakhon and Samut Prakan logged two deaths each, with a single fatality in each of nine provinces: Pathum Thani, Sakhon Nakhon, Tak, Ayutthaya, Chiang Rai, Surin, Chaiyaphum, Nonthaburi and Chai Nat, it added.
Bangkok continued to lead other provinces in new infections with 951 cases and Phetchaburi came second with 669.
Thai returnees from Cambodia dominated imported transmissions with 41 cases, followed by six from India, and one each from Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates.
CCSA assistant spokeswoman Dr Apisamai Srirungson said only two of the Thais returning from Cambodia illegally crossed the border illegally (back to Ta Phraya district of Sa Kaeo). The rest returned through the checkpoint in Aranyaprathet district of the same province.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha received his second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine at Bamrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institute, along with a vaccine passport.

As of Tuesday, 1,187 (+18) patients are in critical condition, with 399 (-7) of them relying on ventilator. About 1.48 percent of the population is fully vaccinated, with 2,044,123 (+102,558) people received the first dose, while 980,190 (+11,091) received the second dose.

There are now 33 active clusters in 23 districts of Bangkok, 11 of which are construction worker camps. Other clusters include Bang Kapi Market, Khlong Toey, Huai Kwang Market, Silom, Bobae Market, Khlong Thom, Flower Market, Sala Namron Market, Pratunam, and Ying Charoen Market.

The parliament has been put on high alert after 519 construction workers employed by Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction tested positive. Sukit Atthopakorn, an advisor to House Speaker, said the workers were working on the exterior and they did not interact with parliament staff.

Thailand logs 26 Covid deaths, 3,226 cases Tuesday

There were 26 new Covid-19 fatalities and 3,226 new cases in Thailand over the past 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Tuesday morning.
The new infections comprised 2,344 among the general population and 882 in prisons.
The third wave of the novel coronavirus that began on April 1 has now seen 106,576 cases, 61,768 of whom recovered.
Over the past 24 hours, 3,094 cases recovered and were discharged from hospitals.
The death toll from the third wave alone rose to 738, with the accumulated toll from the start of the pandemic now 832.
Thailand has now logged 135,439 cases since January 2020.
As of Monday, 45,413 Covid-19 cases were at hospitals, including 1,187 critically ill people and 399 dependent on ventilators.
Apisamai Srirangson, assistant spokeswoman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said in an afternoon daily update that the 26 new fatalities ranged between the ages of 36 and 88. Fifteen were men and 11 women.
Fifteen of the dead were in Bangkok, two each in Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan provinces and one each in Nonthaburi, Phetchaburi, Chon Buri, Amnat Charoen, Buri Ram, Nakhon Sawan and Kalasin.
As many as 13 of the new fatalities contracted Covid-19 from infected family members and five from colleagues, Dr Apisamai said. Four were vendors and taxi drivers. Two visited a market and a hospital, and one was in an outbreak zone.
Thirteen of them had hypertension and 11 had diabetes. Other chronic diseases among the deceased were renal disease, high cholesterol, lung and heart diseases, liver disease and obesity.
The 3,226 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours included 2,325 domestically-transmitted infections in 48 provinces and 19 imported cases.
Of the domestic cases, 1,142 were confirmed at hospitals and 1,183 through mass testing.
Bangkok logged the most new infections -- 872 -- followed by 590 in Nonthaburi, 227 in Phetchaburi, 126 in Samut Prakan, 66 in Pathum Thani, 54 in Narathiwat, 49 in Samut Sakhon, 34 in Chon Buri, 29 in Ayutthaya and 25 each in Surat Thani and Ratchaburi.
“The total number of cases in Bangkok from April 1 to May 25 is 35,567 and the daily increment is still rising,” Dr Apisamai said.
Fifty-seven provinces recorded fewer than 10 new cases each over the past 24 hours.
Twenty-nine provinces were free of new Covid-19 cases in the same period. They were Chiang Mai, Sa Kaeo, Phatthalung, Phitsanulok, Lamphun, Ang Thong, Surin, Kamphaeng Phet, Nakhon Phanom, Trat, Sakon Nakhon, Sukhothai, Chumphon, Kalasin, Sing Buri, Phayao, Loei, Phrae, Uttaradit, Chai Nat, Nong Khai, Phangnga, Amnat Charoen, Mae Hong Son, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Mukdahan, Uthai Thani, Bung Kan and Satun.

What is the purpose of printing things like that day after day in all government produced announcements? I think in a way it's the Thai way of saying they didn't die fully from Covid, but from extenuating circumstances. Have other countries printed info like that endlessly?
It's been very clearly understood for over a year that health conditions can worsen the effects of Covid. Repeating and publishing it incessantly appears to me to be an attempt at deflection.

^^ It would be more interesting to know the severity of the pre-existing conditions. How serious the hypertension. How serious the diabetes, type 1 type 2 etc. Were the deceased on medication, etc.

41 Covid deaths in 24 hours, new record high

Thailand logged 41 new Covid-19 fatalities over the past 24 hours, a new daily record, and 2,455 new infections, the Public Health Ministry reported on Wednesday morning.
The new cases comprised 1,976 among general people and 479 among prison inmates.
Over the past 24 hours, 2,571 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals.
In the third wave of Covid-19 from April 1, total cases increased to 109,031 while 64,339 patients recovered. The death toll from the period rose to 779.
From the start of the Covid-19 pandemic early last year, the death toll went up to 873 and the cumulative number of infections reached 137,894.
The previous record high of fatalities over a 24-hour period was 34 on May 12, when there were also 1,983 new Covid-19 infections.
Taweesilp Visanuyothin, spokesman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said later that the 41 new fatalities were 29-86 years old. Twenty-five were men and 16 women.
Sixteen of the dead were in Bangkok, seven in Samut Prakan province, three in Nonthaburi, two each in Chon Buri and Pathum Thani, and one each in Sing Buri, Sukhothai, Udon Thani, Narathiwat, Loei, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Sawan, Prachin Buri, Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Samut Sakhon.

Of the local infections, 1,210 were confirmed at hospitals and 750 via mass testing.
Bangkok still logged the most local infections – 975 -- followed by 259 in Phetchaburi, 122 in Nonthaburi, 100 in Samut Prakan, 61 in Pathum Thani, 42 in Songkhla, 40 in Chon Buri, 30 in Tak, 24 in Surat Thani and 21 in Samut Sakhon.
Daily case increments appeared stable in Thailand, with new infections found in both old and new clusters. Bangkok had a new cluster of 12 cases in Saphan Lek area of Phra Nakhon district.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 523,429 in 24 hours to 168.51 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 12,086 to 3.49 million. India had 208,886 new cases for a total of 27.16 million and 4,172 new fatalities for a toll of 311,421.
