In July, HH should get 93mm of rain for the month.

According to Thai Met we've had 153mm already in first 17 days(+64% of monthly average).

We could end up with double the monthly average if this keeps up

Or, then again, we could have a dry spell now....

In which case it will still be +64% above normal July average - but the chances of no rain between now and the 31st are probably like Jeremy Clarkson’s new farm shop - diddly squat!!
Yes that's what I was inferring ie the law of averages would suggest that the rainfall amounts should, on balance, reduce going forward

Had to play golf early yesterday, and it was a good job I did

Heavy rain forecast for 22 provinces

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... -provinces

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon, in his capacity as the chairman of the National Water Resources Committee, has ordered all relevant state agencies to prepare for major downpours across 22 provinces which may trigger flash floods and landslides on Tuesday.

Gen Prawit's assistant spokesman, Patchasak Patirupanont, said the deputy PM had ordered the Office of National Water Resources, the Interior Ministry and the Royal Irrigation Department to provide assistance to those who might be affected by the heavy rain brought on by the strong southwesterly monsoon winds which are prevailing over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

Military units across 22 provinces which are expected to be hit by downpours have also been alerted, Maj Gen Patchasak said, adding severe weather warnings are currently in effect in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Nayok, Rayong, Kanchanaburi and some areas of Bangkok.

According to an announcement by the Meteorological Department on Monday, heavy rain is expected across the North, the upper Northeast and the East today, bringing with it an increased risk of flash flooding and high waves in open waters.

Strong winds are expected to whip up waves of up to 2-3 metres in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Phangnga. With waves likely to exceed 3 metres during thunderstorms, all ships have been instructed to proceed with caution, while smaller boats have been ordered to stay ashore.

Maj Gen Patchasak went on to say that military units in the area have been given orders by Gen Prawit to provide immediate assistance to people in the area who may have been affected by the flash floods and mudslides.

Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) on Monday reported flash floods and landslides in Mae Hong Son, Loei, Kalasin, Yasothon, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao, Trat and Pattani.

While 77 households were affected, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Ok. Just finished mowing the lawns (half day job) so I'm ready for some rain.

Pete, you're our resident weather man. Would you arrange some rain for me.

Interesting.

Including your friends at Windy.com, and a few other weather websites, I am not seeing any 'significant' rainfall over the next few days for Hua Hin.

Could be that we just won't get what you're going to get.

To date in Hua Hin, we've already had 78% more rain than the average for the whole month of July(165mm versus 93mm)

Whereas July was wetter than normal, August is turning out to be a lot drier - a thunderstorm or two wouldn’t go amiss!!

My Google Assistant reliably informs me that it will probably rain from now up to 5pm.

Having said that that's pretty much her stock teply every day. :banghead:

Very dark clouds out to the Eastern hills so Pranburi will probably get a soaking, whether it makes it here is anybody's guess. Usually not.

I looked at the sky 30 odd minutes ago and thought about calling Noah for help building an ark, so dark was the sky, and yet here we are now and the sun is shining and not a drop has fallen!!

I've read in a few places recently that there were 10 days of Thunderstorms rolling across Thailand. Thankfully, Hua Hin is playing its exclusion card again (a little joker card with an image of HHTel).

July monthly average for Hua Hin = 93mm

But in July '21 we got 169mm (+82%)

August monthly average Hua Hin = 71mm

So we should expect 25% less than a normal July and around 60% less than we got last month!

August rainfall to date= 38.3mm/16 x 31 =74 mm.

So on a straight line daily basis we are on target for average rainfall this month.

Feels drier due to exceptionally wet month last month

That said, who knows what the rest of August will bring?!

Hua Hin is in a microclimate and we don't get the same weather as anywhere else. There's a strip above Seattle, Washington that's like that. It's called the banana belt because it's tropical.

When I asked Goog Ass this morning if it will rain today she replied with a definite "YES" from 1pm onwards so to help things along in the spirit of goodwill to my fellow Forum members I'm going to water the garden and have the car washed.

Sounds a bit like HHTel saying the GBP is getting more Baht to the £1 and then it crashes -forecasting rain is bound to bring a heatwave (although I hope and think you might be right in this instance).

Goog Ass now telling me from a definite yes to "likely". Think I'll start getting my weather forecasts from a more credible source like Fox News.
