I'm still having trouble with how to get to Kaeng Krachan.
Me too, I've even consulted my paper Thailand driving atlas but it doesn't seem to have enough detail of that area either. :?
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

We'll have to wait for JW or others who've been there, I suppose. Must say, I don't fancy going up there and getting lost. Could end up in Burma!!

There is the back way which takes about 45 mins from Elephant Village.

Go along the by-pass having come from Nong Plub Road (3218) and proceed to the cross roads immediately ( 1 klm )before Imperial LakeView.

On the left is a sign for Kaeng Krachan and Springfield. Take this left turn and proceed past a village and when you come to a very sharp bend do not continue to the left but go straight over towards Springfield GC. Carry on past the back entrance to Springfield to a T junction. Turn left and and take the first tarmac road on the right ( I am not sure of distance but it is about 1Klm) at Ban Phu Wai. Continue on this road to the T junction at Bang Nong Rong. Turn right and you will pass water on the right after a short way and continue as far as you can go to a T junction in a built up area and turn left onto 3410. After another 1klm or so you turn right at the temple ( road I think 4007) and continue for some Klms and on the right you will see a road into the back way of Kang Krachan. The golf course is some 10 klms or so on .

Along this entire route there are a few signs in the same style as you will have seen on the Hua Hin by-pass.

This may all sound a little complicated but the only time you need to be careful is to spot the road into the back way of Kaeng Krachan

Thanks, PET. I'll read your post a few more times and compare to Google Earth maps and see if I can fathom it out.
Nereus - I'd come across that map, but there aren't any road numbers and if I look at more detailed maps it seems more complicated than that. Thanks though, I've got the site saved.

Yes, you are probably right about it being more complicated. I got totally bushed in that area coming back from the Land Rover day recently. Even my GPS got it wrong!

My friends tell me that you only have to follow the signs. They are all the same size, detail etc so easy to spot.

These signs are of course for the way via Springfield's back entrance as I do not know if they exist on the other roads.

Lomu, I tried to edit my post above to delete the map I inserted as it is so big it is screwing up the width of the way this entire thread is displayed (at least on my computer).

Anyway, I couldn't edit... I got this message:
phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database
Feel free to edit the map out of that post so that the thread displays normally.

can someone please recomend a course close to HH town for a visitor, I see on the map there is one that looks close to the railway station,

prefer one that rents clubs as I wont be bringing mine with me.

I have also read about courses by Ratchaburi on this thread, Royal Ratchaburi & dragon hills are these close to the town/city of Ratchaburi

sorry I am not familiar with the area yet.

The first course you're referring to is Royal Hua Hin and it's directly behind the railway station, over the tracks. They hire clubs - I've seen them in the pro shop, but I don't know how good they are or the cost (most courses are around the 600THB mark).
Dragon Hills and Royal Ratchaburi are great courses (havn't played Royal for quite a while though). DH is in the middle of nowhere and quite some distance from Ratchaburi. They have their own accommodation there though. Stayed last year and there were basic, clean aircon rooms and a good restaurant. The place was deserted - 3 of us and 4 staff.
Royal Rathaburi is closer to town from what I can remember.
There are plenty of other courses in the vicinity of HH, all at most about 30 mins by road away from the centre.
See here:

I'm sure all the courses rent clubs. Give them a call to check.

I'm gonna blow my own golf trumpet again.
Played Dolphin Bay yesterday and was standing on the 9th tee at +2 (the two dropped shots were down to a three putt and a missed three footer).
Thought I was going to hammer my previous best of 39 (+5) until I did a buksi and pulled my drive into a ditch behind large trees, messed about in there for another shot, hacked out and ended up with 7 - guess what? 39 again. I just can't beat that score. One day!!
