Thanks for your answers so far guys, but I am not really any further on:

- Randy says - definitely Yes

- BaaBaa says - definitely No

- chelsea says - probably, but Useless

This is my first time using a 3G card, but my staff use them all of the time. Personally, I can't be bothered with a work laptop - I prefer to leave work at the office. The reason that I thought I'd try one is because one of my staff fired her laptop up to work alongside me at my desk. Her 3G laptop connection was faster than my hard wired desktop connection. Having said that, I've heard my staff whinging that connection is not good throughout the country. I'm maybe wearing rose tinted specs this week using it in the Metropolis. I'll give a try on the train home later today to see how it works en-route to Bristol.

Getting back to my opening question, does anybody know if my model would work in Thailand? Randy, is your card locked to '3' or can you insert any sim card?

BB, as far as I know you should be able to use them overseas, but I think it has to have international roaming set up (not 100% sure).
Also watch out for more expensive rates for using it when overseas, would suggest that you check with Vodafone before using to check on the charges.

In Aus the 3G network is supposed to b all and end all of mobile services, but there are still a lot of areas (especially outside the city) where there are service problems and is very bad in the country areas of Aus.

The major companies here are now pushing a mobile internet system that includes a small notebook machine with built in wireless card and webcam.
Now these machines might have a better connection rate (with the wireless system built into the notebook) than the one you and I are using.

I have a normal ADSL system that I have an older type wireless card that goes in the side of my laptop.
This operates on a mostly 100% signal anywhere in my house. So with that in mind, if I can get a good signal with that, my suspicions would point towards the 3G system being the problem.

As I first said, I have it as an emergency back up for my normal ADSL2 system, so am not really bothered about it.
If I was relying on it to do all of my net work, I would not be happy at all with it

Also bear in mind that 3G is virtually non-existent in Thailand, limited only to very small areas of Bangkok, Chonburi and Chiang Mai - its still largely experimental technology here. They have big plans to expand but we're all familiar with 'Thai Time' right!?

Thanks again guys. The statement
3G is virtually non-existent in Thailand, limited only to very small areas of Bangkok, Chonburi and Chiang Mai
provides me with the answer I was looking for.

chelsea,

The card does have International roaming, but I had no intention of paying vodafone's extortionate overseas rates; hence the question about using a 1 to call sim card. It's all academic now as a result of Buksi's statement.

It maybe on the way though ... read on:

If TrueMove are the only carrier it's likely to be obscenely expensive and they will have lock-in contracts as they do with the iPhone.

BB, vodafone does work in Thailand for data except for the fact that they block voip providers.
Also in the UK you pay 50p a day and in Thailand about five pounds.

I would give it a try, vodafone don't normally lock their phones and I would've thought it would work on Gprs as well.
I'm using vodafone 3g at the moment and it's not that much quicker than 1-2-call data in Thailand.

This is a good one. Image

On a friends computer, the recycle bin icon always shows as full and the recycle bin is always empty but if you run CCleaner it shows 114 files (28'000+bytes) in the recycle bin.

It's a common problem apparently that has something to do with a fault in the registry.

I've googled it but can't get my head around it.

Any easy fix?

It's XP by the way.

Does anyone know anything about printers? Specifically a Cannon MP145 that has the intravenous feed supply thing from large ink holders.

Things seem to be OK apart from the magenta yellow has backed up about half way along the feed pipes and can't get it to go down to the end where the other colours are. Been farting around with this for a while today but the printer seems to be determined to make me very flustered. Only had the damn thing a month!

Any ideas anyone? Image

Bit of an odd one here - to do with the wifes 'fujitsu' laptop.

She can't use the 4 key - nothing happens. But sometimes when typing, whatever key she presses produces the number 4?! Sometimes this just happens for a few digits, other times she has to give up doing whatever she is doing. She's tried removing and replacing the 4 key, but to no avail (in case it was jamming). She's currently in LOS.

Is there a plausible explanation to this? An easy fix? Or will it have to go back to the repair shop again, or the knackers yard?

I did a few quick Googles and nothing specific about your exact problem Caller. I would go to the fujitsu.com website and re-download any drivers for your model keyboard to see if that helps.

It could be some weird virus as well so she should do a scan. Pete
