Cold War? I believe it was Eric Blair or his better half G. Orwell. A beautiful maker of prose and quotes such as People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.”
Napolean had a cold war once

Commissioned about the same time, but no. Coincidentally, the ship in question has a geographical connection with you, BB - I'd be surprised if you hadn't gone fishing in it at some point...

I'm usually good with RN Ships, but I'm struggling. I think your 'clue' hasn't helped - I've thought of the obvious like HMS Tamar, but of course, that was a stone frigate, now with the Chinese.

Am I right thinking it is a corvette, and not flower class?

It was a frigate, and you're thinking along the right lines with the Tamar.

Hmmm...... Interesting, I've always taken a ship's ID number starting with a K to be a corvette. OK, I had to Google it, so am I allowed to give the answer?

OK, HMS Plym, destroyed as part of Operation Hurricane whilst being used as the detonation platform for the UK's first nuclear weapon in Operation Hurricane.

Although data acquisition would have been simplified by detonating the bomb from a tower above the ground or sea surface, it was conducted aboard the Plym in order to simulate the effects of a nuclear weapon being smuggled into a British harbour aboard a ship, which was considered a real possibility at the time.
