And continuing that theme, we all know about the Mayflower, but what was the name of the 2nd ship a year later?

Not sure about a year later but the Speedwell comes to mind.

Actually, the Speedwell was supposed to accompany the Mayflower but had to turn back because it was springing too many leaks.
So a condescending pat on the back but no prize for you.

No contest, being born in Dartmouth, which Mayflower and Speedwell visited before going on to Plymouth and the New World, we learned that piece of history when quite young. There is a plaque in Bayards Cove in Dartmouth commemorating the visit (this location was also used in many of the episodes of The Oneiden Line and was turned into Liverpool, Portugal and a few other places). I lived in Mayflower Close and my mate lived in the next road, Speedwell Close.

So Trumph made the Mayflower saloon but I don't think it made it to America.
Plymouth cars stuck around a long time- 1928 until discontinued in 2001.

In the fall of 1621 the Fortune was the second English ship destined for Plymouth Colony in the New World, one year after the voyage of the Pilgrim ship Mayflower. Financed as the Mayflower was by Thomas Weston and others of the London-based Merchant Adventurers, Fortune was to transport thirty-five settlers to the colony on a ship that was much smaller than Mayflower. The Fortune required two months to prepare for the voyage and once underway, reached Cape Cod on November 9, 1621 and the colony itself in late November. The ship was unexpected by those in Plymouth colony and although it brought useful settlers, many of whom were young men, it brought no supplies, further straining the limited food resources of the colony. The ship only stayed in the colony about three weeks, returning to England in December loaded with valuable furs and other goods. But when nearing England, instead of heading to the English Channel, a navigation error caused the ship to sail south-east to the coast of France, where it was overtaken and seized by a French warship. The Fortune finally arrived back in London in February 1622, over two months after leaving Plymouth, but without its valuable cargo. In the end, Weston lost his total investment in the Fortune voyage making it worthwhile only in providing Plymouth colony with new settlers, some of whom became notable persons in the history of the colony.

16th century? English or Spanish? Drake or Raleigh probably too obvious.

I think Raleigh as looks very similar to the pic on pipe tobacco cans and pouches my uncle used to use. Pete

IF it is Raleigh he was decapitated in the Tower. I`m not sure that DM would set such an easy question though

I did this at school. It is Raleigh I am sure. Cant remember how he died but think it was in the tower.

Think he got locked up with others. Don't think he died from a smoking related illness due to tobacco!
